Systems Analyst - Data, SQL, ETL, Datawarehouse Design, Reading, 5 month contract

This role will require candidates to either have SC Clearance or have the ability to get SC Clearance which will mean having been resident of the UK for a minimum of 5 years.

Role Description:

  • Serve as the primary interface between Business Analysts and integration teams, providing a business & systems analysis service to ensure the most effective software solutions are designed, developed and deployed to meet the client's requirements.

  • Develop detailed application functional requirements in accordance with programme processes and standards.

  • Plan and estimate analysis deliverables with the development manager and design lead.

  • Work closely with development managers, software architects and lead developers in proactively identifying project risks and issues. Also work closely with this group to understand the technical constraints and options that will guide the recommended solutions.

  • Formally review development work to ensure it meets the business requirement.

  • Identify and evolve best working practices, seeking out new techniques which can be adapted for use by self and others.

Essential Experience/Skills:

  • Experience of working on the design of MI/BI solutions using Microsoft technologies (SQL Server)

  • Experience of ETL design using SSIS

  • Experience of designing reports using SSRS

  • Experience of Data Warehouse design using star schemas and data cubes

  • Ability to design clear interface diagrams

  • Ability to create detailed interface specifications mapping data items between systems and documenting any transformations required

  • Experience acting as a business systems analyst within large scale software development projects and/or systems integration projects

  • The ability to write and review concise technical documentation in a structured and repeatable way

  • A strong understanding of the software development life cycle

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

  • An understanding of software design patterns and/or software architecture

  • Experience of requirements capture and analysis techniques

  • The ability to work on own initiative

  • The ability to motivate developers to achieve milestones

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Knowledge of the recruiting process for the Army, RAF or Royal Navy

  • Ability to identify, communicate and solve complex problems

  • Experience of applying structured analysis methods in a commercial environment

  • Has a broad and practical knowledge of IT

  • Excellent inter-personal skills, to include: Strong written and verbal communication ability

  • Consultancy skills (eg workshop facilitation, presentation skills)
