Electronics / Hardware Design Engineer / Contract / East MidlandsMy client based in the Midlands is a large, industry founding organisation that are embarking on a new phase of product development that will transform the industry.
I am recruiting at present a highly experienced Electronics / Hardware Design Engineer to assist the Electronics Development Manager in this exciting phase of the company's history.
The role will be a contract position for a 12 month period and may involve travel to sites abroad.
Role/Responsibilities:
- Design of electronic hardware, incorporating sensors, low-power radio and battery operated circuits
- Analysis of system requirements
- Schematic capture and PCB layout (Altium)
- Documentation of design specifications and implementation details
- Generation of manufacturing outputs for prototype and production manufacture
- Development of appropriate test hardware and procedures, both informal and formal, to prove the correct operation of hardware
- Provide support for the hardware and manage component obsolescence throughout its lifecycle
- Participation in design reviews, including firmware review/debugging
- Interfacing with firmware, software and mechanical engineers to products robust product designs
- Keep abreast of latest technology in electronics, embedded systems and related fields
Skills/Training requirements:
- Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role
- Experienced with use of Altium Designer for schematic entry and PCB layout tools
- Detailed knowledge of the following:
- Analogue & digital electronics
- Microprocessor circuitry e.g. STM32 and PIC18/24
- Wired Communication Protocols e.g. SPI, I2C, RS232 and USB
- Wireless communication protocols e.g. IEEE
- Hardware prototyping and troubleshooting skills
- Competent with the use of test equipment - Oscilloscopes, data loggers and RF spectrum analysers
- Experience of Embedded C development and/or debugging would be advantageous
- System architecture experience would be advantageous
- Excellent communication skills; verbal & written
- Excellent time management with the ability to work autonomously
