Description
Civil Engineering Senior Planner Job-To provide construction planning and programming input for projects at pre qualification, tender and contract stage by developing an accurate assessment of sequence, methodology and time.
Responsibilities
- Review contract documents, specifications and scope;
- Develop initial tender and contract programmes, sequence of work and construction methodologies;
- Identification of Temporary Works;
- Attend settlement meetings with Directors and explain scheme and programme;
- Plan project work and identify resource requirements (labour, plant, materials and S/Cs);
- Monitor progress and productivity and report to team;
- Identify and assess programme risks and produce mitigation plans with project team;
- Produce monthly progress reports for client and internal issue;
- Identify alternative methodologies / sequences to improve project completion date;
- Liaise with designers, subcontractors, clients and third parties e.g. Statutory Authorities;
- Produce progress reports and project related documents and communicate with all levels of staff regarding project issues
Knowledge skills & experience
- Educated to degree level in a relevant construction field (Civil Engineering desirable);
- Ideally will have previously held a similar position with a medium to major size Civil Engineering Contractor;
- Required working knowledge of highway schemes, structures, earthworks operations, heavy civils, surfacing, groundworks, piling, and falseworks.
- Schemes are predominantly Roads & Bridges with some Energy from Waste schemes and limited clean & dirty Water schemes. Some knowledge of Mass Haul, Earthworks Classification, Remediation Techniques would be an advantage.
- Suitable level of safety training and to hold an appropriate CSCS card. Membership of a professional body e.g. ICE is encouraged (desirable);
- Ability to absorb and assimilate project information quickly and to demonstrate clarity of thought in developing and presenting solutions within rigid timeframes;
- Effective verbal and written communication skills;
- Confidence to communicate within the company as well as clients, industry professional and suppliers outside the company;
- Capable of preparing programmes using one or more of the project management software packages in use in the company e.g. Microsoft Project, Primavera.
- Keen interest in and a good knowledge of civil engineering or general construction techniques and methodology;
- An understanding of the design and procurement process and an awareness of contractual matters;
