Description

Overview:
  • Strong emphasis on component-level Commodity expertise to develop the company's suppliers and the suppliers processes to prevent defects and improve the quality of our components, processes and products.
  • Responsible for helping Sourcing, Product Development, Manufacturing and our other internal customers to meet their objectives in acquiring high quality components (parts, assemblies, subsystems and outsourced products) with accelerated First Article Inspection approvals.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages action plans with suppliers and across internal functional areas to address the resolution of nonconforming issues.
  • Mentors other junior Quality Assurance and Supplier Quality Engineers to ensure that our processes are being followed and that our objectives and goals are being met.
  • Under minimal supervision, plans, conducts and supervises assignments of action plans to qualify/approve new suppliers and/or components for production and also to problem solve/resolve production or field related issues.
  • Reviews progress and evaluates results.
  • Recommends changes in procedures and/or processes to improve component quality or cost.
  • Reviews progress against goals with management as required.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to other Engineers.
  • Perform supplier audits, assessments, and sources inspections and is responsible to help assess if suppliers should be approved, require corrective action or disqualified.
  • Improve material quality, ensure proper drawings and requirements are communicated to the supplier and that the supplier has the process capabilities to satisfy the critical-to-quality characteristics for the component.
  • Updates supplier's records with results of visits to and from suppliers.
  • Develop supplier processes through process, product and/or tooling validations and provide assistance, conduct supplier review meetings and supplier training.
  • Responsible for the First Article approval of components (parts, assemblies, subsystems and outsourced products).
  • Use statistical process control and capability studies in assessing supplier processes and capabilities.
  • Provide our suppliers effective feedback and work with them constructively to improve their performance levels.
  • Ensure we support Manufacturing and timely address non-conforming material so as to not negatively impact production schedules.
  • Supply Manufacturing with timely investigations, containment, root-cause analysis and permanent solutions for non-conforming material WIP quality issues.
  • Have Supplier Development Engineering representation in our improvement teams and contribute to our teams success.
  • Conduct internal audits on company processes as required.
  • Perform Failure Analysis and inspection techniques on supplier materials as required.
  • As the expert for his/her Commodity, provide the direction and mentoring to help other Engineers, Inspectors, etc. improve their performance levels
  • Writing and revising policies, procedures and creating forms to support our supplier development processes.
  • Work closely with other facilities as a team and be apart of the overall Quality efforts by sharing resources and responsibilities across sites such that we achieve the overall objectives related to supplier development
SKILLS:

Qualifications:
  • Four year Technical Degree required (IF NO DEGREE THEN THEY WOULD NEED TO HAVE AT LEAST 20 Years experience).
  • 10 years relevant work experience in Electro/mechanical Engineering/manufacturing.
  • Computer Literate.
  • Must be able to teach suppliers SPC, problem solving, Mistake-Proofing and inspection techniques. ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and/or Quality Auditor preferred.
  • Participation in Professional Engineering Societies by Commodity is highly desirable.
  • 6 Sigma Black Belt preferred.
  • Must know ANSI-Y14.5, Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing.
  • Mechanical design experience.
  • Box-build: Manufacturing experience for assembly of electro-mechanical products.
  • Plastics: Plastics tooling fabrication and molding experience.

MUST HAVES:

  • Situation is so dynamic -A lot of experience in supplier development in injection molding domain (or) if they have a lot of similar experience 20+ years experience in metals, sheet metals, stampings, plating, etc.
  • Practical application in 6 sigma, someone who has applied the tools not just gained certification.
