Role Purpose:
To define and develop the communications system architecture.

Background
The Weapon System Architecture and Equipment function delivers critical elements of Air Defence and Surface Attack Weapon Systems. Mission Planning and Control (MP&C) is considered a critical contributor to Surface Attack Weapon Systems that provides key 'smart' capabilities to future Missile Systems.

We are looking for a highly capable, versatile and enthusiastic System Engineer to join the MP&C team. The successful candidate will perform Systems Engineering in the "Communications System" domain, working in the "project" Weapon System team, responsible for developing system architecture, design and requirements in relation to communications and interoperability.

Type of Activities
Definition of the Communications architecture, its logical design and the key design decisions and characteristics.

General Systems Engineering studies and investigations to support Architecture definition, including trade-off analysis.

Manage and maintain requirements and design baselines.

Design and development of weapon systems would be desirable, particularly any experience in RF or communications systems.

Skills and Knowledge:
Substantial, demonstrable analytical and problem solving skills.
Sound understanding of a System Engineering process (including System and Sub-System Specification, System Test and Integration).
Good understanding of communications systems, Tactical Data Links, and communications protocols.
Experience of System Modelling using SysML (& UML) preferably using Rhapsody.
Knowledge of tools for Requirements Capture and Control (DOORS) and Configuration Management (Dimensions).
Knowledge and experience of military communication systems and interoperability/battlespace integration.
