Description

Next Ventures is urgently looking for an ABAP developer for a short role based in Houston, Texas.

Scope:

The scope of work will be to analyze customer's SAP report modification requirements and draft an effort proposal with the consultancy management that will then be presented to the final customer. The analysis will take place at the end customer offices.

Business and Design Skills required:

Excellent communication skills. Must be fluent in both English and business language and concepts.

Ability to quickly grasp and converse with the user in terms of business issues

Ability to evaluate and propose alternative technical and process solutions in business terms the user can relate to. Ability to use concepts such as wireframes, mockups, flowcharts, example applications, pros and cons, timelines, etc. to help the user visualize and evaluate the alternatives.

Must be able to communicate with people that incorporate into their communications, imprecise terminology, metaphors, emotion, occasional inconsistencies, etc.

Ability to keep the business problem front and center through the design and development process. Users should not have to re-explain the problem to a developer that wondered off-course because design and development hijacked the focus.

Ability to set expectations with users in terms of business results, functional specifications, time and resources as opposed to technical specifications alone.

Must deeply understand the concept of maximizing the value of the client's investment and be committed to keeping that front and center throughout the engagement.

Ability to convert the accepted solution into a technical design that can be estimated, scheduled, and implemented with reliability. The person will be familiar with the breath of technologies available, their strengths and weaknesses from a design/development perspective, and how to assemble them into a robust, reliable, and manageable solution design.

The ability to visualize and communicate the impact various design options will have on maintenance, upgrades, and future enhancements with the goal minimizing those impacts.

Knowledge of past engagements as well as knowledge of the skills and experience available in user forums and other available resources, and the ability to leverage these to expedite the solution and reduce its associated risk.

If it is decided that additional staffing will be needed, ability to divide the work into skills based work streams, and develop reliable effort, time and skills estimates for each.

Ability to quickly communicate the design with supporting, team members, monitor their work, and report development progress.

Ability to plan and incorporate effective quality control procedures for the solution

Knowledge of current best practices and ability to develop solutions that adhere to them

Can be counted on to develop good quality documentation for the solution.

Ability to work with an agile methodology where features are specified, evaluated, designed, developed and implemented in rapid succession as opposed to all work being specified up front.

Ability to develop and adhere to a project budget and schedule.

Ability to present concepts to users that is fully ready for presentation without diving into code, but instead talking about it in terms of application behaviour and user experience.

Technical Skills required:

Must be up to date with the full range of SAP skills required to build optimal modern solutions in SAP.

These must include ABAP development, both end-user knowledge, and technical knowledge of SAP Supply Chain, Maintenance Management, and Project Services systems, how costs flow through the system, SAP's business rules engine and best practices related to it, and the full breath of SAP developer utilities.

Ability to add nice formatting to excel downloaded reports.

Development skills with additional 3rd party tools that are available at the customer, or could easily and inexpensively be acquired where those tools can provide additional value over what is supplied by SAP, as well as the ability to create web services or other components necessary to interact with those 3rd party tools.

Ability to develop efficient code that is well documented, well designed and optimized for easy maintenance and reusability by those who were uninvolved in the original development.

Ability to unit test the developers own work, and to plan and coordinate later testing.

Ability to work with the BASIS team, security, and others to facilitate testing, change management, etc.
