Description

Systems Safety Engineer who is able to correctly apply safety management techniques including HAZID, Fault Tree Analysis and SWIFT required for leading defence company based in Warton.

A vacancy exists within the Tornado System Safety Engineering team. Based at Warton, this team is part of the Tornado, Harrier & General Projects SDR Capability Engineering Team, dealing with all business streams & across all phases of the programme.

The position will offer a great opportunity to become involved in the safe integration and clearance of new avionics and weapons systems on Tornado, for both the UK and export markets. The role will offer a position within a small dedicated team of systems safety engineers, covering all aspects of the platform safety management system on Tornado.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to perform tasks suitable to the internal level of this role.

The role will contain, but will not be limited to, the following;

The role of the Senior Systems Safety Engineer will report to the System Safety Section Leader, Tornado and be based at Warton.

Main responsibilities will involve:
To provide assurance to the System Safety Section Leader that all work produced is in accordance with relevant standards and that all necessary processes have been followed, and that appropriate tailoring has been applied.
To provide support to the System Safety Section Leader at Project Safety Committee Working Groups and Meetings, as directed. Be competent enough to chair such meetings.
To maintain the Project Hazard Logs as directed.
To update and maintain the safety cases for the Projects as directed.
To manage Project Safety and Environmental Management System and Plans, as directed by the System Safety Section Leader.
To review all proposed design changes for their impact on safety and the environment, advising any necessary actions to be taken.

The Individual

The following will be required of the successful candidate:

Skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Educated to degree level.
Experience of engineering within an aerospace environment.
Experience in SHE, Product Safety and Environmental Management.
Member of a professional body
Proficient in the use of various system safety analysis techniques
Experienced in risk management, this will include hazard identification, analysis, risk assessment and risk mitigation
Able to write technical reports on safety and environmental matters and other reports, presenting both to peers, senior colleagues and customers as appropriate.
Able to correctly apply safety management techniques including HAZID (Hazard Identification) tools, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), and Structured What If Techniques (SWIFT) and other applicable techniques as directed by the System Safety Section Leader.
Have an awareness of the standards used in safety and environmental management, and the application of these to aerospace projects.
Able to carry out safety analysis and research activities independently, and be able to provide credible safety information, advice and guidance to projects.
Able to manage effectively any conflicting priorities and deadlines, to work under pressure and to achieve deadlines within the budgeted time allocated
