IT Operations Specialist
IT Operations specialist required by one of my top financial clients based in Redhill Surrey.
24x7 Shift pattern required 7am to 7pm or 7pm to 7am alternative every 4 days. It is essential that candidates have their own transport and live within 1 hour of Redhill Surrey.
Job Description
Under general supervision, the role of the Operations Specialist is to perform day-to-day monitoring and maintenance tasks to ensure the stability of financial International IT systems. The Operations Specialist is responsible for continuity of both systems and data, and for ensuring that services are quickly recovered under all circumstances.
Ensure the smooth operation of all International systems and service during agreed service hours
Manage incidents and service requests through to escalation and/or resolution, providing high quality ticket annotation and communication to both customers and other IT teams
Monitor the environments through event management tools, processing alerts in line with incident management practices
Raise and/or implement change requests, follow the change management policy and process to ensure stability of the production environment is maintained. Changes will at times involve physical installation, transfer and removal of equipment
Ensure asset/configuration data is kept up to date at all times
Raise and update problem tickets as appropriate
Act as a first point of contact for any issues outside of hours supported by the Service Desk
Ensure incremental and full backups are completed for all production Servers every day and provide day to day management of the back-up operations eg tape changing, job scheduled processing and verification
Undertake all data centre operational tasks including maintaining high levels of tidiness, cleanliness and order with regard to the data centre all related equipment.
Adere to all data centre operational rules and regulations and security practices
Develop and maintain supporting documentation
Ensure the Shift Lead is kept up to date with issues as they arise
No less than 2 years relevant experience in the financial sector
Broad technical knowledge with emphasis on the technologies listed below
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with high standards for customer service

VMware technologies and administration practices
Citrix administration
Linux administration
Windows technologies preferably Server 2008 onwards
Cisco UCS
I-Series AS400 technologies and administration practices
Experience of IBM Tivoli is beneficial
Experience in DB2 technologies is beneficial
Experience in SQL technologies is beneficial
Experience within a Data Centre - Patching, Racking
Experience in Systems Management Software and Back-Up technologies - IBM TSM advantageous
Initial 3 month contract but long term extension for the right candidate.
