THE ROLE:
If you have a passion for pushing the boundaries of modern hosting technologies, working on teams delivering cool solutions and can take operational responsibility for the hosting we supply to our high profile customers, you may be exactly what we are looking for.
This role is a mixture of Commercial project (potentially client facing) and also a back log of Sys Admin that the client need help with. Production facing role:
- Assist in the design, build and implementation of hosting solutions.
- Procure suitable hardware to support the above
- Day to day maintenance of hosted systems & networks.
- Ensure systems backups run correctly.
- Respond to monitoring system alerts.
- Develop new monitoring check to improve future service performance.
- Day to day security and stability of hosting networks.
- Follow incident response procedures
- Have awareness of security threats, vulnerabilities and risks.
- Analyse risks presented to systems by new vulnerabilities.
- Ensure vulnerabilities are patched or mitigated in a timely fashions
- Create and maintain system documentation and technical review of systems and processes.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent server side knowledge of Linux or Windows, with a working knowledge of both.
- Knowledge of web application hosting, preferably using Java using Java or .Net in a multi- tier environment.
- A passion to automate everything using: Perl, Python, Bash, Powershell, Chef, Octopus, Jenkins, Team City.
- The urge to monitor things even if they are static: Nagios, Pingdom, New Relic
- Enthusiasm to about a DevOps environment
- A willingness to be part of a team supporting a 24/7 operation
DESIRABLE:
- Strong Documentation skills
- Database Administration skills including backup, recovery and tuning.
- The ability to be adaptable, hit the ground running and learn new technologies.
Location: South Yorkshire
Length: Contract 3 months rolling (extension likely)
Rate: £400
