Duties: Controls Design Engineers will be expected to work under their own initiative to produce output of a high quality within defined budget and programme restraints.

Duties will include:
*The preparation of feasibility and option reports and contribute to functional design specification development for complex low-level control systems.
*The preparation of complete designs for complex low-level control systems, including sketches, reports and other required documentation in accordance with company procedures and project requirements.
*The design, development and test of PLC software control components and implementation builds, in accordance with company procedures and project requirements, using industrial automation solutions. The majority of this work will be

carried out using Siemens S7 technology in Simatic Manager and TIA Portal, and utilising the different programming languages within the S7 software.
*The analysis and solution of engineering problems of varying complexity which arise in design, build, test, installation and commissioning.
*The specification, evaluation and selection of control equipment.
*The checking of, reviewing and verifying (testing) of, relevant design office output, including PLC software.
In additional to the above Grade E3 Controls Design Engineers will be expected to undertake tasks that are more complex and will be will be expected to undertake the following duties:
*The preparation of original conceptual designs.
*The preparation of functional design specifications for complex low-level control systems.
*To contribution to design health and safety risk assessment and design mitigation development.

Responsibilities: The following responsibilities are applicable to all grades of Control Design Engineer:
*Consider, act upon and record health, safety and environment issues at all stages of the design process (tender and contract) in accordance with the H&S Manual.
*Read and act on H&S tool-box talks and bulletins that are distributed.
*Report any unsafe act, unsafe condition, near miss and accidents you observe or become aware of and become part of the extra ordinary safety culture and help promote the "Home Safe Everyday" campaign.
*Ensure you are knowledgeable of the content of the Airports Project Manual and the applicability of the procedures to your tasks.
*Ensure you have an awareness of the employer and national standards, legal and regulatory requirements relating to your tasks; ensure that you designs are compliant with these unless otherwise agreed with your Project Manager or Lead Engineer.
*Establish with your Project Manager or Lead Engineer the man-hour budget and target cost for any bought-out items and the required completion date and scope of your tasks.
*Work within the established budget and time scales; advise your Project manager or Lead Engineer why this cannot be achieved.
*Proactively seek ways to achieve task completion to less than budget or ahead or time scale.
*Provide progress reports and estimates to complete (time and man-hours) for your tasks as specified by the Project Manager or Lead Engineer.
*Only undertake work that is instructed and authorised; ensure events that lead to changes to scope are brought to the attention of your Project Manager or Lead Engineer.
*Maintain good communications and interaction with members of the project team

Ensure as far as possible the correctness of own work, design and software.
Ensuring you maintain a detailed personal and professional development plan (PDP) and participating in activities that will contribute towards your continued development.
Key Activities: Lead, manage, supervise and direct allocated resources; assess resource competences; and allocate work resources accordingly.
Assist with the developing of the project schedule/programme.
Provide progress updates against the project schedule/programme.
*Attend project financial reviews and provide Estimates to Complete (ETCs) for assigned activities.
Identify to the Project Manager variations to the agreed scope of work. Assist with the development of scope change notices (eg NCEs, EWNs), assessing cost, programme and resource implications.
Liaise with the project team, the client's team, stakeholders and other suppliers in the development and co-ordination of the assigned project activities.
Identify risks and opportunities associated with the allocated activities and notify appropriate members of the Project Management Team.
Co-ordinate the resolution of technical issues.
Attend, chair and clerk internal and external project, design and technical meetings.
