User Researcher - Must have SC clearance - London - 6 months + Extensions

One of our blue chip clients is urgently looking for a User Researcher. Candidates must have active SC clearance (Home Office preferred)

Our User Researchers tend to work within fast-paced delivery teams - either across several smaller services, or dedicated to one larger programme of work.
They will form a close partnership with a designer, and often a Front End developer and a business analyst, for a given digital service,
You will be passionate about what you bring to service delivery and prepared to be a vocal advocate for user needs both within the team and the department at large.
You will be experienced in using a variety of user research methodologies and able to develop test design tailored to a given service.
You will be comfortable with lean UX practices such as guerrilla testing, paper prototyping and rapid analysis techniques that involve the wider team whenever possible.
Our researchers won't spend time writing lengthy reports but instead, look for engaging ways to communicate your findings to delivery teams, and with stakeholders across the department unfamiliar with user experience.

Day-to-day you will be responsible for:

Planning, designing and conducting in-house usability testing sessions to support the design and development of government services
Leading the usability testing process from developing user recruitment briefs/personas/user stories through to test moderation, analysis and report writing
Conducting in-house research to test new product and concept developments (including user requirements gathering and early stage concept and prototype testing
, guerrilla research, and other approaches to ensuring the `user needs are fully understood in the service design)
Working with Service Managers to devise appropriate research strategies to generate focused insights and to convert concepts into appropriate stimulus material (low or high fidelity)
Working closely with designers and developers to turn user research findings into actionable product/service requirements that feed into prototype development
, and influence product direction
Designing, Scripting and analysing ad-hoc qualitative/quantitative surveys using in-house software licences
Managing ad-hoc qualitative/quantitative research projects such as proposition development, visual identity and customer experience mapping
Applying knowledge in human factors, ethnography, and the user-centred design process to product and service design in an iterative development environment
Presenting findings and related design/business recommendations and customer insights to senior decision makers ensuring that research findings are relayed qu
ickly to teams and wider department/government where beneficial
Promoting user centred design principles and best practice within government

Essential
Demonstrable knowledge and passion for user centred design practices for both public facing and internal services and applications
Proven experience of eliciting user needs for applications and services
Experience of managing, executing and analysing usability test sessions
Experience of working in an agile development environment with User Experience teams, designers and developers to create new digital products/services and applications internal to an organisation

Desirable
Experience across devices (desktop, tablet and mobile), tools and transactional services, especially those with complex user journeys
Experience of identifying and understanding user groups and communicating needs using methods such as design personas.
Experience using user centred design practices for both public facing and internal services and applications
Degree in HCI/Usability/Cognitive Psychology/Market Research or related field
Training in research methods to understand the theory behind the practice
Experience within a research and digital environment
Knowledge of Gov.uk and the Government Digital Service Standards
