Database Administrator, DBA, SQL Server, Oracle, DB2

A leading global software house is looking to add a talented Senior Database Administrator to their busy Hertfordshire office, working on their market leading product. This is a role which will offer the opportunity to work on mission critical software in a senior capacity, having a genuine impact on the technical environment and gaining the opportunity to introduce new database schemas such as star schema and reporting databases to the product suite. The client facing nature of the role will ensure that the successful Senior Database Administrator will enjoy a varied and challenging role.

The Senior Database Administrator will be tasked with developing and supporting a large and varied database environment, which will incorporate SQL Server ), Oracle (10g-12c) and DB2 technologies. They will be responsible for the technical database administration work such as database installation and configuration, troubleshooting and health checking, monitoring database security, and performing database tuning and diagnosis, as well as more strategic database work such as advising around partitioning strategies, archiving strategies and database structure. The role will be a split between development and production DBA work, with a leaning towards development. The client facing nature of this role means that there will be an element of travel with work.

I would be interested in speaking to Databases Administrators who have the following skills / experience:
  • Experience working in a varied database environment, ideally using SQL Server, Oracle or DB2
  • Exposure to large scale databases and mission critical systems
  • Strong skills in a range of database administration tasks including performance tuning, troubleshooting, health checking, database backups and installations
  • Ability to update logical and physical database designs with changes
  • Assisting in mentoring more junior database staff
  • Working closely with other technical and functional employees
  • Exposure to the banking / finance domains (desirable)
