Description

The Contract IT Technician will be responsible for supporting network operations and procedures as a part time to Full time consultant for a Northeast Ohio IT company and its residential and commercial clientele. The ideal candidate for this role will assist in providing computer and network support related to software and hardware troubleshooting. The Contract IT Technician must maintain an adequate level of knowledge of operating system and application software being used to provide high levels of support. Excellent customer service, strict attention to detail and problem solving above reproach are requirements in this role.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Installing, configuring and maintaining desktop and laptop Windows and Mac PC's and peripherals.

  • Troubleshooting and repair of hardware.

  • Installing operating system software, patches and upgrades.

  • Installing and configuring application software and upgrades.

  • Completes work orders such as installing equipment and performing data migration to new machines.

  • Configures and sets up Servers to work with various programs; installs software. Ensures server backups and networked user backups are performed on a regular basis.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving LAN/WAN performance, network connectivity and related problems.

  • Maintain network user accounts; assigning application access, ensuring security and configurations are within standards.

  • Administrating and maintaining Firewalls.

  • Managing, monitoring and updating virus-preventative systems.

  • Participating in server builds and installation.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a part time to Full time contract position. Hours will fluctuate based on business demand. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Business casual dress is required.

Travel and Equipment

  • Must have reliable transportation and ability and willingness to travel to various clients in Northeast Ohio. Clients may be located South (Greater Akron), North (Greater Cleveland) and West (Oberlin area).

Qualifications

  • The ability to work quickly, under pressure and meet or exceed deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate respectfully with clients using layman's language.

  • A willingness to keep up-to-date with developments in technology.

  • Proficiency in Windows Operating Systems (XP through 8.1).

  • Proficiency with Windows Servers Operating Systems .

  • Microsoft and CISCO Certifications are a plus.

  • Cross platform expertise a definite plus.

  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.

  • The ability to work to a high degree of accuracy.

  • Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP a must.

  • A good understanding of database architecture, software and database management systems

Compensation

  • Compensation will be determined based on years of experience and ability to meet job description qualifications.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in computer and network maintenance.
