The Enterprise Data Architect will provide strategic and technical leadership in key areas of data management including data analysis, design and modelling, database management expertise, data quality and security management, data warehousing techniques and BI practices, and creation/maintenance of data dictionaries and meta-data registries. The EDA should have a proven record of moving into new technology areas and quickly mastering skills and knowledge required to administer, support, configure, consult, and build solutions within the framework.

Key Areas of Expertise Include:

  • Understand hardware configuration design, performance tuning, and scalability across multiple platforms
  • Excellent knowledge of Database Design principles
  • Understand BI practices and toolsets
  • Excellent SQL knowledge
  • Excellent Transactional and Dimensional modelling capability
  • Excellent Data Hierarchy and Classification capabilities

Additional Preferred Experiences Include:

  • Experience of developing enterprise data and information architectures and models, data and information standards and related policies and frameworks
  • Experience of all aspects of data and information management, Business Intelligence and decision support
  • Experience with data extraction and transformation software as well as data integration software
  • Experience defining and maintaining processes & procedures related to data and information access and security
  • Experience in logical and physical database design, hands-on modelling techniques, and development methodology; physical schema design
  • Thorough understanding of relational database models and solid knowledge of relational database techniques including dimensional modelling for BI solutions

Detailed Role Responsibilities:

  • Define vision, strategy, and principles for data management
  • Define standards (naming, describing, governing, managing, modelling, cleansing, enriching, transforming, moving, storing, searching ) that maximizes the value of data as an enterprise asset
  • Champion data quality and quality improvement initiatives
  • Assess impacts of change requests to the enterprise data architecture and infrastructure
  • Work with the IT Portfolios to serve as a liaison between data consumers and data solution development, integration, and governance teams
  • Work to ensure business data modelling is part of requirements analysis and system design
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the definition and development of data warehousing documentation and standards as well as design and development of the enterprise collections of data
  • Regularly review overall data management infrastructure for data integrity, performance quality, recoverability, maintenance, and space requirement considerations
  • Provide organizational and technical leadership for daily administration of data collections (warehouses, marts, hubs, etc.)
  • Provide technical leadership in the selection of technology and systems to meet business data needs
  • Provide input into data management strategy encompassing all forms of enterprise data including structured and unstructured data as well as big data elements
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in information and data management throughout the industry
