Description

Progressive has been tasked by a key account to source the following candidate to join their team on a contract basis for their Edinburgh Site (initial 6 months with possible extension)
Network Surveillance - System Test Engineer
Experience/Knowledge:

* 3-5 years experience of testing embedded hardware and software

* Experience working within R & D team
* Excellent knowledge of SONET/SDH, ATM and Ethernet telecoms standards Some knowledge of OTN would be an advantage
* Excellent knowledge of Perl, TCL and Unix shell scripting
* An awareness of the requirement for sensitivity and security
A working knowledge of some of the following will be essential:

* Protocol/telecoms signalling and monitoring systems
* Software debugging tools such as gdb
* Clearcase configuration management environment and defect tracking systems
* Software development using C++
* Software development using Java
The candidate should demonstrate a sound knowledge and practical experience of the following:

* Designing a test suite to exercise both the software and hardware components of the system
* Implementing automated test scripts
* Working with a defect tracking system to report defects and verify fixes
* Writing code that meets company coding standards
Qualifications:

* Bachelors or Master Degree or University Degree in Electrical/Electronic or Computer Engineering
* Related experience with telecoms markets, customers, products and applications
* Familiarity with current and evolving telecoms standards
