Job Description

A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Software Engineer in Cambridge. The successful candidate will become a member of the development team and will be responsible for the design and development as well as the maintenance and enhancement of computational models.

Essential Functions:
  • Develops and implements computational CFD models: liaises with commercial and product teams to understand customer needs; propose solutions; design and implement the chosen solution.
  • Maintains existing Software products: works with line manager and support to determine if inquiries should be elevated to change requests, and implements change requests for enhancements and bug fixes.
  • Delivers projects to their specification, with estimated timing, and to ISO 9000 quality standards.
  • Specifies and creates tests to demonstrate the correctness of implemented models; tests programs as necessary; corrects any shortcomings revealed by in-house or external testing.
  • Researches and understands associated necessary technologies in programming, engineering, physics, and mathematics.
  • Liaises with the GUI developers as necessary to generate detailed functional requirements for user interface
  • Provides second line technical support: works with our support team to find solutions to the customer inquiries.
  • Where necessary, liaises with customers and third-party vendors.


  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Education to an MSc level (PhD preferred) in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum three years of experience in research, development or application engineering in a relevant field
  • Sound knowledge of fluid mechanics and computational methods
  • Experience with the applications of CFD using in-house, open-source or commercial packages
  • Experience in the development and implementation of computational models.
  • Excellent programming skills using FORTRAN but knowledge of other programming languages (C, C++) is acceptable
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others in a geographically diverse team environment.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Windows development environments and revision control systems is desirable.
  • Proficiency with Linux or/and Windows office tools (LaTeX, Open Office, Microsoft Office)
