Description
The person we are looking for will be involved in a project converting/upgrading or migrating from Solaris 10 to Solaris 11, including Symantec Veritas Storage Foundation & Clustering using the latest Oracle T5 & T4 hardware;
Having experience with Solaris 11, Veritas & Oracle's latest hardware LDOMs, control domains, service domains are the main interest for this role
Unix Design Engineer - Solaris/Veritas Expert
As part of the Unix Engineering team you will be responsible for the follow-up of the existing Unix environments, with focus on Oracle/Sun Solaris; lead in the design and engineering of the ever-changing environments, lead and co-operate in internal and company projects, assist & coach the design architects and work in close collaboration with design engineers in other areas and with Unix Administrators of the Unix/Linux Operations teams.
Tasks:
Engineering tasks:
- Fine-tune and optimize the current Unix/Linux environment
- life cycle management of system software and hardware configurations
- Test updates & upgrades of Unix System-and related software
- Test, validate, engineer new products and features, using a systemic way of working
- Solve fundamental design and capacity problems
- Be actively involved in defining the Unix strategy
- Act as an ambassador of the Unix competence center within the departments
Skills and experience:
- Several years of experience in ICT, more specifically in High End Unix production environments
- Experience in engineering, maintaining and supporting Unix Systems, focus is on all recent Solaris versions (10 & 11), but knowledge of HP/UX, Red Hat Linux are an asset.
- Operational experience with Enterprise systems (Oracle T-series, X86, HP Superdome (2) integrated in a SAN, as well as knowledge of related tools
- Extensive knowledge of OS & Clustering Tools such as Veritas Storage Foundation (HA), Veritas Clustering System, Veritas Operations Manager, Virtualisation on the different OS-es (LDOM's, zoning), VMWare fundamentals.
- Scripting skills.
- General planning & project management skills and experience.
- Aside from Dutch and/or French, good knowledge of English is a must
As a design engineer, you will report to the Unix/Linux Engineering Team manager.
