We are looking for an experienced PHP developer to become the latest addition to our highly driven and rap-idly expanding development team.
As our Senior PHP Developer you'll be responsible for developing new features for our platform according to our roadmap and helping to organise and maintain the issue backlog. We're a lean team and our sprints are kept short to make sure that we can react quickly to the demands of our clients. You'll need to be capable and confident enough to keep up with rapid development cycles and multiple threads of work, which will usu-ally include some stack administration.
Ideal candidates will be self motivated, disciplined and be able to demonstrate a passion for creating well written, extensible and reusable application code. Extensive knowledge of PHP5, MySQL, MVC architectures and OOP is essential as these are the foundations of our platform.
Key Responsibilities
To develop new application features and services, either within the framework or as standalone scripts
Write and enhance Unit Testing across the platform to ensure platform stability
Take ownership of the issue backlog to help organise and resolve issues quickly
Optimise platform performance by revising caching strategies and framework setup
Utilise external APIs to build and maintain external data collection and processing workflows
Write and refactor application controller logic according to DRY and TDD principles
Create application documentation and help to form an in-house code style guide
Provide time and resource estimates to assist in the planning of the development roadmap
Keep abreast of and learn new technologies and be capable of implementing these as applicable in order to enhance the application and service infrastructure
Required Skills
This is a senior position. We're looking for somebody with demonstrable knowledge of high end, high performance web application development and server administration, but more importantly we're looking for passion for our product and for the technology required to deliver it.
Exceptional PHP development skills with an excellent understanding of object-oriented code
Experience of developing modular applications and working with MVC frameworks
High proficiency in writing robust code for large scale web applications with rapid release cycles
Experience in configuring, maintaining and optimising Linux and Apache server environments
Experience of building high traffic, high performance websites and applications.
Excellent understanding of relational SQL database architectures, and working with big data'
Experience of deploying and optimising scalable applications using AWS services (including but not lim-ited to Route53, SES, RDS, S3)
Experience of consuming external data services (eg RESTful services), including the ability to program-matically interact with data formats including (but not limited to) XML, JSON
Experience of working with source control systems such as Subversion and Git
Desirable Skills
Experience of working in a Scrum or Agile team
Experience of writing in languages other than PHP (such as Python, Ruby, C)
Good knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JS and other Front End development skills
Solid knowledge of third party tools and libraries such as jQuery, Require.js, Node.js
Solid understanding of responsive design techniques and multi-platform deployment
