Role & Responsibilities
The design, support and security of the Departments communications infrastructure and network applications
Securing the entire communications network in accordance with the Department's security policies
The development of scalable network designs, solutions and policies with a focus on network security. Responsible for the configuration and support of all Firewall devices
Ensuring the security of the Department's local and global area networks, all data centres, hosted services and Government Network connectivity
Working with the in-house Senior Network Engineer to develop scalable network designs and implement security aware policies
Supporting the existing applications by understanding application network requirements
Providing cover for the Senior Communications Engineer in all areas including VoIP
Providing third-tier support
Minimum Qualifications: Cisco CCNP Routing Certification, Checkpoint CCSA R71 Certified, experience of implementing such solutions in a public sector context
Skills and Experience
Proven extensive experience in ability to configure, manage and maintain Checkpoint, Cisco, Bluecoat & Codian technologies
Min 5 years' experience (high level experience)
- network design and configuration
- IP security and encryption technologies
- configuring and installing Routers and Switches
Full knowledge of TCP/IP, IPSec, VRRP, NAT and the 802.1x authentication standard
High level experience with security issues and access control mechanisms to prevent unwanted access.
High level experience with standard network change management and configuration policies
Installing and configuring an industry standard SIEM - operating and maintaining effective polices and alerting
IP Telephony roll-outs and IP Telephony support
This role will require civil service security clearance
