Mechanical Design Engineer
£36-£38 per hour

A Mechanical Design Engineer is required to design the mechanical components of a state of the art imaging system for defence/aero purposes.

This is a real and rare opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work on a product from Cradle to grave. Therefore the right candidate will have experience of understanding requirements, design, test and production of their designs.

Design Engineers with a background in hand-held devices/video equipment will be of significant interest.

Job Outline:
To support new product development projects we are looking for Mechanical Design Engineers, these positions will provide mechanical design expertise to new products and test equipment from concept through to volume production.
Products are developed, manufactured, assembled and tested on site, providing a stimulating engineering environment. You will join a strong Mechanical Design function and operate as a member of a small multi-disciplinary Business Line and Project team. The role demands self motivation, dedication and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
* Design systems of a complex nature within cost targets (design & manufacturing) and meeting specification requirements.
* Provide high quality design input to product development bids/proposals.
* Develop and maintain close working relationships within the Business Line(s) and Operations/Manufacturing.
* An ability to competently represent the Company with Customers and externally eg Conferences/Exhibitions.
* Provide high quality data packs and technical reports.

Personal Specification:
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate:
* Proven experience designing high precision products
* At least 2 years working with mechanical design software tools (eg. Pro-ENGINEER Wildfire/Creo 3D modelling,2D detailing) and ideally have a good working knowledge of Windchill PDMlink or similar high level data management system
* A good understanding of modern manufacturing processes, materials and design for manufacture
* Application of BS 8888
* Interest in product design and experience of major development projects
* An Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
* Excellent communication skills and high attention to detail

The following attributes would be desirable:
* Structural analysis
* Membership of a relevant professional body
* Awareness of the change processes within the defence industry
