QC Cable Termination Inspector

We are currently recruiting for a project based QC Cable Termination Inspector position, for which we are happy to consider any applicants that meet the following profile.

Requirements:
  • Master in electrical High Voltage Engineering (or Bachelor with +10y experience)
  • Experience and extensive knowledge of high voltage cables specifications (single core, multiple core)
  • Knowledge of subsea cable manufacturing processes
  • Able to read, interpret cable manufacturing methods
  • Able to understand and assess the cable manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of extrusion and dielectrically insulation process
  • Able to review and follow up the QA/QC methodology of the cable manufacturer
  • Very extensive knowledge of IEC standards (possible accredited level)
  • Knowledge of Q-test and FAT for the specific cables
  • Knowledge of coiling, preservation, and transport of HV cables.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Electrical engineering safety principles
  • Knowledge of HV transformers and reaction vessels
  • Knowledge of the Belgian legislation AREI (general guidelines for electrical installations)


Responsibilities:

During manufacturing of the HV cable and components:
  • Visit the manufacturer, keep track of the QA/QC of the manufacturer and report progress.
  • Verify that the components are within the specs of the Employer requirements
  • Inspect the components (critical points) report after visit and if need be write NCR
  • If components are finished make final inspection with a full FAT or witness the FAT of the main contractor. Any NCR must be reported.
  • Review the documents for transport, particularly the packaging, fastening and protection of the item transported.
During installation of the HV components:

  • Check that the item was transported without damage, inspect together with the main contractor, before installation of this item.
  • Check that installation method statements are up to standard, detailed, without ambiguity, according to the applicable standards and that personnel are duly informed, trained for the installation of the HV equipment.
  • Follow up the installation of the HV cable in the OHVS, special attention to lifting, connections, stability, fastening, general good practice and handling
  • Review test methods and witness all preliminary tests during the installation.
  • Verify that method statements are followed.
  • The equipment subject to calibration shall be checked by the QC HV cable Inspector to ensure that applicable equipment used for testing and measuring is within limits of the applicable standard.
  • Full FAT of the end product together with the project electrical engineer and possible 3rd party , before coiling and transport.
  • Advise the marine representative of the project concerning the fragility of the cable so that he/she can review load out and sea transport method statements accordingly.
  • Make sure that daily, weekly reporting is done and NCR are raised and remedial actions are taken by the contractor and are satisfactory.

After cable manufacturing:

  • Inspection of the cable in cable lay vessel and particular the handling of the handling of cable, tensioning, and general good practice
  • Advise O&M engineers regarding the specifications of the cable


This position is scheduled to start on Feb 1st, 2016 and will initially run until the summer. The exact end date is still to be determined.
