Description

Job Title - Senior Database Administrator Contractor

Summary:
Duties ranging from strategic and architectural to engineering and DB platform: capacity management, platform reliability, operational efficiency, performance tuning, and upgrade/roadmap management.

  • Drives continuous improvement of applications and infrastructure through for the SCADA organization to ensure optimal operations, performance, and stability of services.
  • Works closely with infrastructure resources to ensure best possible resource utilization and system performance.
  • Provides technical guidance related to database design, development, operation and maintenance of key application databases.
  • Works with large DB application team to determine appropriate DB, storage and DR/HA solutions to support greater uptime and reliability.
  • Performs capacity planning to sustain business growth.
  • Participates with troubleshooting, problem solving, and performance tuning assistance to application and infrastructure teams.
  • Performs database cloning, refreshes, and data migration.
  • Ability to work independently and to resolve Oracle issues
  • Applies R&D, oversight & direction for the implementing of various database-efficiency technologies: Examples include:
    • Database upgrades
    • DB cloning and snapshots
    • Database monitoring and management tools
    • Database Tuning and optimization
    • Experience in using tools for monitoring and tuning
    • Archiving and backup technologies
    • DB-focused consultative services as needed.

Required Skills:

  • Proficient and experienced with Oracle RMAN (backup, restore, and cloning)
  • Strong production support experience & customer service skills
  • Oracle 11G and 12c Database Administration and Management on Linux environments
  • Oracle Database Tuning and Performance - usage of AWR, ADDM, ASH and UNIX native commands
  • Scripting experience
  • Storage considerations for Oracle Database Performance
  • Oracle Enterprise Manager/Grid Control for environment standardization
  • Knowledge of enterprise data architecture principles
  • Takes the initiative to act on issues

Qualifications of the ideal candidate:

  • 7+ years experience supporting Oracle. SQL Server a plus.
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering or MIS.
  • Working knowledge of SAN/storage technologies.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and UNIX based platforms as it relates to the support of highly available RDBMS.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Outstanding team player and works well with cross functional teams.
  • General business case development & financial based decision making skills.
  • High degree of professionalism, respect for diversity particularly with respect to globally sourced solution providers.
