Achievement Network (ANet) is an entrepreneurial education nonprofit that helps schools boost student learning with great teaching—teaching that’s grounded in standards, informed by data, and built on the successful practices of educators around the country.

ANet was founded on the premise that every child in America deserves an excellent education and the opportunities it provides. We choose to work in traditionally underserved communities because we want to help address the persistent inequity of opportunity in our country.

Founded in Boston in 2005, ANet has grown more than 60% per year over the last five years. We now serve over 500 schools educating 150,000 students in Massachusetts, Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, and the District of Columbia. Our support has consistently helped our partner schools—whether district or charter—achieve breakthrough results for their students.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Engineering team and help build products that support ANet’s mission. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the person will play a key role in helping implement our technology vision.

Our current software stacks are programmed in JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, and Go, and deployed on AWS. However, we are always evaluating new technologies; our tech stacks can and do change over time. This role may require working with a variety of different tools and environments.


Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementation of ANet’s next generation of the education technologies that are crucial elements of ANet’s core program offering
  • Creating, monitoring and delivering against the product road map and corresponding release cycles, supported by the product team

    Experience and Educational Background:

  • Direct experience in the implementation of a consumer-facing web applications
  • 5+ years of software development experience, with demonstrated success delivering solutions with high business value. Candidates must have experience in, and have knowledge of:A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Web development frameworks
  • JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks such as AngularJS
  • Scrum or other Agile development processes
  • RESTful Web Services
  • Scalable web application development
  • Software-as-a-service (SaaS) and Service-oriented architecture (SOA)
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

    Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience and qualifications. We also offer a comprehensive benefits plan including health and dental insurance; a 401(K) plan; 10 paid holidays as well as paid days off between the Christmas and New Year’s holidays; three weeks’ vacation (four weeks’ vacation after two years with the organization); 10 paid sick/personal days; 1 floating holiday; and short and long-term disability coverage.
