Mechanical Engineer

Hook

Contract: 6 months (possibly ongoing)

Up to £38PH

A well-known company based in Hook are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join their team. They are looking for someone with experience in the Aerospace and Defence Industry who has a good working knowledge of FEA/Thermal Modelling as well as ME 10 and solid modelling.

Main Purpose:

To lead the mechanical, thermal and structural design aspects associated in product development

To lead all the CAD activities.

  • Create a "vision" within the team on all aspects of mechanical, thermal and structural design.
  • Provide design for cost solutions for product development that meet with the technical requirements and Company processes for manufacture.
  • Ensure that all aspects with reference to the technical requirements are met
  • Provide direction to the electrical design engineers on all matters that impact the integration of the overall design.
  • Provide direction to the electrical design engineers on all matters that impact the integration of the overall design.
  • Provide thermal and FEA modelling as necessary.
  • Develop strong relationships working with other team members and production engineering to ensure that designs can be manufactured cost effectively and to resolve any production issues.
  • Ensure all components (including PCBs, electrical components etc.,) will fit the design using solid modelling as appropriate.
  • Provide innovative solutions where called upon.
  • Work within the constraints of the project budget in development and the end product cost expectation.
  • Keep up to date with technical developments by networking, attending seminars and training.
  • Assistance in other departments in order to meet Company objectives
  • Ensure that all Environmental Health and Safety/Company Policies are adhered to at all times
  • Continuous Improvement, You will have responsibility to make suggestions on Continuous Improvement within the business; expectations are around 4 a year. This responsibility forms part all employees' job description.
  • Education and Experience

    • 1st degree in Mechanical Engineering from a University that is renowned for its courses in Mechanical Engineering
    • Further education/courses associated with mechanical engineering an advantage
    • Membership of a recognised Mechanical Institute an advantage
    • Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Aerospace and Defence industry -a minimum of 10-years
    • Good working knowledge of FEA/Thermal modelling
    • Excellent working knowledge of ME10 and Solid Modelling

    • Strong leadership qualities - able to create a "vision" within a team and motivate them through her/his enthusiasm and direction
    • Good working knowledge of 'materials' associated with RF and Microwave products
    • Strong technical and communications skills - able to sell the virtues of our technology/solutions to the customer while understanding and avoiding undue risk
    • Self-motivated, creative and forward thinking
    • Flexible at all times and particularly when deadlines need to be met
