Mechanical Design Engineer

Description

We are currently working with a government agency who are looking to bring strategic leadership to UK investments in large national and international research facilities, together with delivering world-class science and technology. The facility performs cutting-edge research into the structure and properties of materials at an atomic and molecular level.
Role:

This work includes conceptual 3D layout & equipment modelling, production of mechanical detailed drawings to BS 8888 using 2D and 3D CAD. Must be able to work using own initiative and part of a disciplined team, reporting to the lead engineer.
Qualifications:

• Minimum HNC/level 4 in mechanical engineering or equivalent with relevant associated experience

Experience required:

• General experience in mechanical component design, which should be supported with knowledge of contemporary manufacturing processes, assembly of parts and relevant design standards.

Specific skills:

• SolidEdge CAD experience
• Production of detailed drawings to BS8888
• Mechanical component design of bespoke equipment
• Use of Geometric tolerancing and precision machining of parts
• Past practical experience in the manufacture and assembly of parts

Desirable:

• Experience in a science or nuclear environment would be beneficial.
• Production of fabrication drawings
• Basic mechanical stress calculation experience
• Practical experience of how components are fabricated and assembled
• Knowledge of working with remotely operated tooling or in remote handling environments

This role has been deemed within IR35 and requires BPSS (HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard)
