Principal Mechanical Engineer (District Heating Networks/Gas Distribution)

Location: Exeter

Duration: Initial 6 months

A Principal Mechanical Engineer (District Heating Networks/Gas Distribution) is required to join a client in the utilities industry based in Exeter on an initial 6-month contract.

The client: Our client designs, builds and operates district heating schemes for commercial and residential customers.

The role: You will join the team as a Principal Engineer, responsible for leading the technical and mechanical engineering development of the district heating schemes throughout the full project life cycle.

This is an exciting time to be part of the district heating market due to the implementation of new, low carbon technologies and regulatory changes.

Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the estimation and delivery of design on multiple projects to ensure design budgets are met.
  • Approving and authorising design work, standards and specifications.
  • Technical and mechanical engineering activities such as systems, drawings, calculations and plant choice.
  • Leading the mechanical engineering development and technical aspects of the district heating schemes.
  • Working alongside the electrical, district heating networks and city design teams.
  • Auditing the project design documentation.

Mandatory Skills

The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience of the following:

  • District Heating Network design and operations or Gas Distribution
  • UK mechanical engineering regulations and standards
  • CAD, AutoCAD, BIM and Revit
  • Energy Centre functionality, design and operation

You should also have Mechanical Engineering degree qualification.

Desirable Skills

  • Design Risk assessment, auditing, Construction Design and Management Regulations.
  • Hands-on experience of working with pressure system standards and control (PED)
  • A sound commercial understanding, business acumen and an awareness of cost.
  • Solid experience in Mechanical engineering project management and budgetary responsibility.
  • A good understanding of SAP calculation and regulation
  • Chartered Engineer
  • A full valid UK driving licence

Background Screening:

  • You should be willing to undergo any screening checks carried out by the client. Once on site, you will need to undergo adhoc alcohol and drugs tests
