Exciting new opportunity with a global leader is now available for a successful UK Engineering Manager within an R&D Function:

- They provide start to finish solutions including automated machinery and conveying systems for processing, coating, distribution, seasoning, weighing, packaging and metal detection.

- Their Birmingham offices houses 3 teams, UK manufacturing, Operations and Sales and the global R&D team responsible for distribution and seasoning products.

Your duties as the UK Engineering Manager:

- Responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team to design complete systems for the snack food industry and develop new innovative machines for the distribution and seasoning of snack foods while ensuring optimum customer service and satisfaction.

- Lead the UK R&D team by providing technical, strategic and personal advice to ensure each individual and the team as whole.

- Liaise with all departments to ensure there is a common understanding of short, medium and long term engineering deliverables.

- Provide clear task planning to the UK R&D team that combines immediate project work with long-term R&D.

- By continually understanding customer's needs, bring new concepts into the R&D team and provide a high level of engineering support to ensure the team can bring to market innovative new equipment.

  • Directly responsible for the performance of all UK R&D team members, approximately 20 staff.
  • Provide continual performance appraisals for all UK R&D team members.
  • Lead the team culture and correct as necessary.
  • Ensure team staffing levels match demand and recruit as necessary.
  • Ensure the teams engineering deliverables are in line with customers cost expectations (approximately £100m turnover/year)
Do you have what we are looking for:

  • Minimum 3 years experience leading a technical team with responsibilities for roles, culture and skills matrix.
  • Minimum 5 years design experience in special purpose machine design, food industry relevant.
  • Degree qualified in appropriate Engineering discipline (or similar from another country) to a minimum of 2:1.
  • 5 years experience with 2D CAD and 3D Autodesk CAD systems with PLM or PDM knowledge.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of materials and manufacturing processes, specifically stainless steel sheet metal and welding techniques.
  • Knowledge of CE and machinery technical files.
  • Direct exposure to the food and packaging industry is desirable but not mandatory.
