We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a Defence Company based in Harlow, Essex.

Contract: 6 months

MUST BE SC CLEARED

Responsible for and will lead all mechanical design work, and will drive other functions such as supply chain and QA.

Job Description:

  • Leading the mechanical design of various cutting edge land and land vehicle based optical and RF sensing systems
  • Leading the mechanical design aspects of all Land Systems military vehicle integration activities
  • Leading the mechanical design and militarisation of low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) products into fully qualified military systems
  • Take responsibility for the implementation of mechanical design through all phases of the project life cycle
  • Support Programme Management by producing mechanical engineering plans, Basis of Estimates, Key Performance Targets and Statements of Work.
  • Ensuring that all mechanical engineering activities undertaken under your control are conducted in accordance with site procedures that reflects best practice

Essential Experience:

  • A mechanical engineering background, at degree or post graduate level
  • Proven knowledge and experience as a Lead Mechanical Engineer
  • A high level of competency in CAD design tools (particularly Pro Engineer)
  • Proven experience of leading design aspects of a solution within the military land vehicle or land system domain
  • Experience in, and understanding of the issues involved with (throughout the entire life cycle of the product), military vehicle integration activities
  • Experience of militarisation of low TRL products (particularly optical and RF sensors) though to qualification and production.
  • A comprehensive understanding of standards and guidance relating to military Land Systems mechanical engineering design standards (DEF-STANS, MIL-STDs etc), as well as an understanding of emerging Land Systems open architecture standards (eg GVA, GBA etc)
  • Flexibility to travel abroad to support meetings
