Senior Quantity Surveyor - 3 Month Temporary Contract - Immediate Start

We are recruiting for one of the nation's largest commercial companies who provide an extensive range of construction services including construction management, general contracting, design and build and preconstruction.

The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Rail team on a 3 month temporary basis leading 3x footbridge replacement projects (Radyr, Llandaf and Machynlleth) in Wales, based in our Bristol offices. As the successful candidate you will manage the commercial and contractual control in coordination of the project involving a high degree of complexity.

Key Requirements

  • prepare and implement project specific commercial strategy to ensure robust Cost Management and production of Project Monthly Reports in accordance with the Reporting timetable
  • ensure Measure and Value is accurately and auditably measured in a timely manner to comply with financial guidelines
  • produce and maintain "First Principle" detailed Forecast Cost to Completion underpinned by a fully resourced programme in accordance with GMCE requirements
  • ensure robust Cost Control & Budget Management through the implementation of commercial review processes in accordance with the GMCE's and Commercial Manual monitored via commercial dashboards
  • implement robust and consistent Change Management and Claims change control processes whilst establishing and maintaining a collaborative culture with the client in order to ensure timely and appropriate agreement of change
  • ensure contemporary Record Keeping is undertaken by the Project/Contract and are organised to enable retrieval and access as defined by the conditions of contract
  • submit Applications in accordance with timescales detailed within the Contract and provide accurate and verifiable Cash flow forecasts to Finance
  • ensure Subcontract Administration is administered strictly in accordance with the specific agreement requirements, Fair Pay Charter and the Construction Act building strong supply chain relationships
  • support Subcontract Procurement to ensure the provisions and risks of the Main Contract are included within Subcontract documentation as appropriate
  • ensure Contract Administration is administered strictly in accordance with the Main Contract requirements to deliver the Project/Contract Commercial Strategy
  • provision of Commercial Advice to project teams to regularly update on Project/Contract performance highlighting commercial best practice
  • build strong Client and Supply Chain Relationships by working in a collaborative manner in accordance with the Code of Conduct, facilitating repeat business
  • support Supply Chain Management with Procurement Project Partner to agree Project/Contract strategy and undertake regular reviews
  • ensure Project/Contract Compliance with legal/statutory/regulatory and code of conduct requirements by carrying out commercial Audits in accordance with the GMCE's and Commercial Manual
  • demonstrate and actively develop a customer focussed and collaborative commercial approach utilising excellent communication and negotiation skills to ensure Conflict Avoidance by proactive Dispute Management and Resolution
  • establish robust Delegated Financial Authority (DFA) framework and ensure ongoing compliance
  • support Recruitment by leading competency based interviews and ensuring a comprehensive induction is to be provided
  • develop People by supporting personal development plans and managing Professional Development
  • undertake regular site visits (minimum 6 safety tours per annum) and site inspections to support Company action plans

You

  • Substantial previous experience in Quantity Surveying obtained in a similar, relevant environment.
  • Experience of financial and commercial control within a project environment
  • Experience of managing teams
  • Experience of dispute resolution
  • A detailed understanding of Contract Law and Insurances
  • Detailed knowledge of differing standard forms of contract
  • Working knowledge of risk management
  • Knowledge and understanding of sub-contracting principles
  • Ability to provide contract advice to teams
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to use own initiative
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Enthusiasm and results focus
  • Effective negotiation skills - with internal and external customers
