Senior RAN Performance and Optimisatin Engineer/LTE/Nokia/NetAct

You will be joining a dynamic and professional team of RAN engineers. Responsible for delivering the planning, performance and optimisation of our new 4G network. Already operating at Senior Engineer level, you'll be an excellent technician, able to draw upon your track record and use a wide range of technical experience to help shape our success. Your approach will be customer focused and aligned to the commercial goals of the business at all levels. You'll also drive our values in day to day activities, supporting the Technical Lead and other Engineers with-in the team.

Reporting to the LTE RAN Planning & Optimisation Technical Authority, you will provide expertise in technical subject matters. You will analyse, propose and implement improvements across the network with the goal to improve significantly the quality of the network performance and hence improve the user's experience that can be quantified. You will also contribute to improvement of processes defined by the Design Teams and the Technical Authority to support current and future business requirements.

Working closely with the RAN Design Teams you will deliver high quality, cost effective solutions in support of business initiatives whilst maintaining high levels of customer experience and network perception.

Your previous experience will be from a 4G Network Operator with excellent practical knowledge of RAN systems, you will proactively seek to fine tune and improve the performance of our network, demonstrating skills you have obtained from another top tier 4G operating network with an established active customer base.

With specific consideration for following tasks;

  • LTE troubleshooting principles, tuning, optimization and maintenance based;
  • Analysis of Drive Test log files including:
    • Coverage analysis
    • Layer 3 message analysis
    • Root cause analysis
    • RF coverage tuning (tilt optimization, RSRP and SINR analysis)
  • Performance management
    • Daily analysis of worst performing cells
    • Counter statistics analysis and KPI reporting
    • Monitor network performance, ensuring all KPI's are met.
    • Root cause analysis of underperforming KPI
    • Alarm analysis and troubleshooting
  • Operational Assurance - Provide on-going support to cross-functional operational teams to ensure capacity and in-life performance of solutions is optimised and meet operational KPIs
  • Identify and investigate structural performance degradation problem in the network
  • Initiate corrective/performance improvement action (small scale or network wide scale)
  • Identify end-to-end optimization opportunities

Work Experience Requirements

  • Professional related accreditation desirable

  • Minimum 6 years strong proven 3G/4G Radio performance and Optimisation experience in a Senior role in a telecommunications industry environment

  • Experience of working in a fast paced, delivery focused team, potentially working for an operator, MSP or vendor
  • Demonstrable experience and/or expert knowledge in the following:

  • Full knowledge and experience with Radio Planning tools (Atoll) or equivalent
  • Familiar with 3GPP standards for EUTRAN and very good knowledge of Nokia EUTRAN features, parameters and software (RL60/RL70)
  • Experience of drive test tools (TEMS Investigation, Nemo, QXDM etc) exposure to variety of test and commercial handsets
  • Experience in the use of post processing tools (eg TEMS discovery)
  • Knowledge on LTE RF Planning (RF Design, Antenna systems, Link Budget calculation)
  • Experienced with NetAct OSS applications and network configuration management tool
  • Good working knowledge of NetAct PM Reporting tool (or other performance monitoring tool)
  • Good understanding of key system/radio parameters and impact on performance
  • Knowledge of VoLTE is considered as advantage
