Description
  • Provides contracting and sourcing expertise for Specialty Team Contracting areas (including investigator-initiated research (IIR), clinical and research collaborations (CRC), clinical trial data transfers/access, HEOR, and ad hoc HCP publications)
  • Directly negotiates legal and business terms with institutions and vendors (including academic medical centers, government agencies, etc.) in support of business requirements and ensures the protection of interests
  • Accountable for minimizing business risk and maximizing research dollars in each contract
  • Serves as a central point of contact for assigned areas
  • Supports U.S. FMV assessments for IIRs and CRCs
  • Situational outsourcing consultation and guidance
  • Provides leadership and oversight in one or more key areas within outsourcing (eg HEOR, IIR, CRC, and Publication contract template updates with Legal)
  • Encourage increased utilization of preferred suppliers and partners.
Responsibilities
  • Meets business needs, assesses and applies innovative outsourcing solutions harmonized with the applicable model
  • Understands and utilizes novel tools to evaluate options, negotiates costs and recommend optimal value-added solutions, when applicable
  • Liaises frequently with internal clients and stakeholders to proactively manage expectations around the contracting process, external providers, and the contracting and sourcing related compliance requirements
  • Manages the outsourcing process as an agent of Sourcing Operations:
  • In collaboration with study/project teams, gains an in-depth understanding of study/project requirements in order to secure appropriate level of service from service providers
    -brokers appropriate study execution options
    -assists with analysing and negotiating complex proposals and provides recommendations and analysis to study/project teams for decision making
    -assists with supplier selection in collaboration with study/project teams
    -negotiates contracts within the agreed legal and budgetary process framework
  • Responsible for the preparation, negotiation and finalization/execution of Master Agreements, Investigator Initiated Research Agreements, Outcomes Research Agreements, Publications Agreements, Clinical Research and Collaboration Agreements, Change Orders, Amendments, and other types of ad-hoc agreements
  • Directly negotiates proposed changes to standard contract language within guidelines provided by the Legal Division; raises significant requested changes to standard contract language to the Legal Division and significant budget exceptions to the appropriate stakeholders for resolution
  • Designs creative and risk-averse payment schedules in order to drive vendor performance, protect financial interests and comply with Sarbane-Oxley, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and other regulations
  • Communicates impact of significant contractual changes and associated budgets to BUs/RUs and other stakeholders proactively to ensure funding availability
  • Provides oversight and leadership as a subject matter expert in one or more key areas of outsourcing expertise, and participates in special projects as needed in support of the company culture
  • Identifies process gaps. Works with Sourcing Operations LT and Specialty Contracts Team Lead to drive the creation and implementation of contracting and outsourcing tools to best fill such gaps and support the business
  • Responsible for obtaining Real Time' external knowledge, expertise, feasibility data (supplier surveillance) and assessment of external commercial market place
SKILLS:

Qualifications & Requirements
  • (1) JD, MBA, or other graduate degree and at least 3 years of experience specifically negotiating and drafting various complex clinical research and development related agreements with academic medical centers, government agencies, and specialty vendors or
  • (2) BA or BS degree (preferably in a related discipline) and at least 5 years of experience specifically negotiating and drafting various complex clinical research and development related agreements with academic medical centers, government agencies, and specialty vendors
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the clinical development process and previous work history in clinical research
  • Understanding of contracting principles and applicable regulations governing clinical research
  • Demonstrated effective influencing, negotiating, interpersonal, leadership, and team player skills
  • Customer focused and solution oriented
  • Excellent analytical and financial skills
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills and proficiency with MS Office applications (Word/PPT/Excel) required: experience with Ariba Contract Workbench, Grants Manager, Grants Plan and/or other industry cost and planning tools preferred
