Description

Electronics Engineer required for 6 month contract (with options to extend) working for multi national defence client in Stevenage.

Electronics Engineer client's requirement overview;

The Electronics Design Function (EE) are responsible for the design and delivery of Electronics Sub-systems for Missiles.

FPGA's are a critical element of our designs and are often complex and challenging. They cover a wide range of functionality from complex low level Image processing algorithms to Actuator control functions and all shades in between. Our designs often incorporate devices with processing cores and our designers have to establish close links with the Software design function to get the most from these devices.

Our FPGA design team undertake the whole of the development process from negotiation of requirements and initial design architecture, through to the formal validation and verification of the design. Many designs have demanding safety requirements so our engineers must be able to rigorously verify their designs and demonstrate this to the Safety Officers.

The FPGA group are a functional team, located together to enable them to share experiences and support each other in this demanding environment.

The Principal Engineer Role is demanding and will encompass interfaces to other functions (eg Software) within the company and also directly to the project leaders who are the primary customers.

The role will also encompass improvement activities (process, tools etc..) and may including activities such as operating as a panel member for Peer and Design reviews.

Candidate Experience:
*Ideally Degree qualified or equivalent
*A thorough understanding of and completion of a number of complex FPGA designs using Xilinx, and/or Altera FPGA devices (including SoC configurations using Power PC or ARM cores)
*Knowledge of Image processing and Safety related design in the context of FPGA's and the verification of such devices
*Knowledge of the trends in FPGA technologies
*CAE Design tools (Xilinx EDK, Xilinx ISE, Xilinx XST, Mentor Graphics HDL Designer, Precision Synthesis, ModelSim)
*Inherent drive to be part of gaining and spreading knowledge throughout the team to improve its medium/long term capability
*Ability to communicate through presentations, verbally and via written reports
*Strong personal abilities with a focus on and desire to achieve the delivery of tasks to schedule
