Description

Summary
  • As a member of the Unix and Virtualization team, youll be part of a small team responsible for availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning of the infrastructure and services that run the clients multi-billion dollar portfolio.
  • The team covers several areas including System Administration for Unix/Linux based OSes, Virtualization Infrastructure currently using VMware, Architecture and Design of new application implementations, Continuous Delivery pipeline influence, Git Source Control administration, Infrastructure Continuity/DR, Security, and Automation.
  • There is a strong focus on automation, monitoring, and metrics.
  • The team enjoys using/writing frameworks and tooling to improve infrastructure.
  • The team does extensive testing and proof of concepts to determine the right tool for the right job.
  • The right candidate is a self-starter with a strong sense of responsibility and problem ownership, can drive issues to completion, adapt quickly, and create working solutions for problems with span a broad technology stack, while working closely and collaboratively with other teams.
Typical Day:
  • Administer over 350 RedHat based Servers, over 30 AIX Servers, and over 75 VMware ESXi hosts
  • Automate any task done more than once; Maintain automation scripts
  • Use Puppet to ensure secure and consistent configurations on all Servers
  • Provide supporting infrastructure to other teams, understand their needs, fulfil requests
  • Design, evaluate, and implement new solutions for operational challenges
  • Work with service owners to troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues in a complex environment. Full Stack perspective and expertise is highly valued
  • Perform periodic on-call duty as part of the rotation maintaining the availability and performance of the infrastructure
  • Debugging and troubleshooting of problems at the OS layer, and at the boundary of OS and hardware/network/storage/etc
  • Create and maintain system documentation to aid in troubleshooting
  • Monitor and analyze system metrics for capacity planning
  • You have velocity and urgency with the work that you deliver with quality to the end customer.
SKILLS:

Technical Skills:
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field
  • 5+ years or equivalent experience in System Administration
  • Proficiency in Bash and at least one other Linux focused Scripting language
  • Proficiency in configuration management tools Puppet and GIT
  • Expertise with RedHat Linux and VMware Virtualization
  • Strong skills in documentation, process, and change management
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent at root cause investigation and problem resolution
Preferred
  • Experience in PowerShell Scripting
  • Experience with containers (Docker, Solaris zones)
  • Experience with monitoring server performance using tools like Nagios, Sensu
  • Experience with Converged Infrastructure solutions such as VCE vBlock, NetApp FlexPod
  • Experience with Database technologies (MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, Postgres)
  • Experience with Networking (switching, routing, Firewalls, load balancers, DNS, IP stack)
  • Experience with Storage (zoning, fibre channel, NFS, CIFS)
  • Solid understanding of the above technologies working together in the stack
