Description

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Section Site Engineer to join the TEAM 2100 framework delivery team on an initial 3 months interim contract. You will be part of a longer running framework involved in a broad range of individual projects to refurbish and replace tidal flood defences along the Thames Estuary.

Predominantly projects will be east of the Thames Barrier, as a Section Engineer you will take on responsibilities for day to day control of general site issues including supervision of subcontractors.

What you will be doing

  • Interpret drawings and set out on site. Full understanding of reinforcement drawings and bending schedules.
  • Liaise with sub-contractors and clearly explain operational and commercial matters affecting them
  • Full understanding of site temporary works procedures
  • Control of sub-contractors with respect to safety quality and interpretation of information
  • Understand and interpret project specifications such that these are met fully by the sub-contractor.
  • Able to fully liaise with design engineers and raise technical queries
  • Carry out Risk Assessments and write Work Package Plans
  • Review subcontractors Work Package Plans
  • Produce reports and surveys as required by Site Management
  • Take primary responsibility for quality control of activities requiring engineering control
  • Take off materials from drawings and order in liaison with site management.
  • Liaise with senior project team to ensure their awareness of all potential opportunities and risk
  • Ensure full liaison to ensure materials are delivered to site in accordance with procurement schedules.
  • Understand Sustainability Policy and embrace those sustainable practices relevant to your role, helping to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Understand Environmental constraints and manage operations to avoid incidents
  • Make Safety Personal by working safely, stopping work if unsafe and speaking up to address any safety concerns sufficient
  • Participate in safety initiative
  • Provide support and guidance to Site Engineers
  • Understand the Contract Programme and produce and monitor short term programmes
  • Work closely with supervisors to co-ordinate the works
  • Have an understanding of the NEC Contract, produce daily records and assist Quantity Surveyors in managing change

Who we are looking for

You will have a civil engineering bias with, with sufficient proven site experience where you will be able to demonstrate control of sub-contractors and a range of specialist site activity including temporary work, supply of major materials.

Demonstrate the ability to interpret drawings and using knowledge to set out buildings, earth works and drainage. Able to use all types of surveying instruments and to be able to establish primary and secondary setting out controls.
