Description

*Media Handling and Public Relations Advisor - up to £510/day - 24 month contract - London*

Security Clearance: Must already hold BPSS + DS clearance or be willing to undergo.

We have an exciting opportunity to join one of our key clients in London who are looking for a Media handling and Public Relations Advisor to join their team. The Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC) is an independent Non-Departmental Public Body, sponsored by the Department for Business Innovation & Skills and is charged with providing scrutiny of the government's regulatory and deregulatory proposals to ensure that the analysis supporting decisions is robust and evidence based. In order to effectively achieve the RPC's objectives there is a need to ensure the RPC communicates and interacts with the media and stakeholders effectively and with impact.

Key tasks and deliverables:

*Managing the media profile of the RPC:
-Proactive identification of media engagement opportunities across all media formats
-Provide an on-call press office function for the RPC (including 24 hour coverage where necessary)
-Handle media requests for interviews and meetings with journalists
-Drafting of press releases and associated messaging for media engagement
-Placement of articles and messages within relevant media, specifically including social media.

*The development and delivery of a strategic communications approach, including:
-Development and management of a forward looking communications plan which embraces a digital strategy to include social media
-Establishing clear and credible messages for the RPC and attendance at, and co-ordination of, monthly communications planning meetings with the Chair and secretariat
-Providing tailored advice on communications and messaging
-Develop strengths and risks analysis relating to communications goals, audiences and channels
-Develop audience mapping and management.

*The development and delivery of a stakeholder management plan that:
-Integrates with, and supports, the wider communications strategy
-Enhances stakeholder support for the work of the RPC
-Improves stakeholder confidence in the better regulation framework and processes through highlighting the benefits of independent scrutiny; and
-Identifies opportunities for co-development and closer working with key domestic and international stakeholders.

*Provide operational support for the RPC:
-Developing a good understanding of the role and work of the Committee, for example through attendance at RPC monthly Committee meetings and further ad hoc stakeholder events
-Attendance at ad hoc communications strategy development meeting
-Identify media opportunities and risks
-Manage practicalities of media opportunities and provide face-to-face support and briefing in advance of, and during, media engagements
-Report on progress on media engagement and delivery of communications strategy
-Maintain strong links with Committee members and the Secretariat
-Develop cost-effective proposals for media engagement.

Essential skills and experience:
*Experience of proactively managing media handling, identifying opportunities and offering views on how to generate best media coverage, not just across traditional avenues
*Experience of pro-active interaction with a network of business correspondents from all major media outlets, mainstream and trade
*The ability to work with a range of stakeholders in building wide support and endorsement for an organisation/framework
