Engineering Manager, Solid Edge Manager, Principal Engineer, CALTA
My client The Centre for Advanced Lasers and Applications (CALTA) require a Engineering Manager urgently for an 8 month contract with possible extension's. The position will pay a maximum of £50 per hour and will be based in Didcot, Oxfordshire. The successful Engineering Manager is required to maintain an overview of all engineering aspects of the project including end user requirements, safety, regulatory and statutory aspects, identifying and assisting to mitigate design and delivery risks.
Further duties and responsibilities for the successful Engineering Manager will include but not be limited to:

Leading the design of novel complex schemes and systems through conceptual design and detail design.

Overseeing the procurement and delivery of hardware.

Providing engineering input into tenders for complex projects in terms of cost, time, scope and risk.

Inputting to strategic planning for projects.
Knowledge & Experience required for the Engineering Manager
-
A Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
-
Experience in the design of a wide range of equipment.
-
Able to work from drawings and written/verbal instructions.
-
A sound knowledge of mechanical engineering, manufacturing techniques and materials.
-
A high level of drive and enthusiasm focusing on goals and objectives.

A sound understanding of mechanical engineering safety principles.

Fluent in the use of SolidEDGE.

Computer literate, able to generate complex 3D CAD assemblies, mechanical drawings, generate and maintain suitable electronic records.

Able to perform calculations and analysis associated with mechanical engineering.
Desirable skills
-
Good staff management skills.
-
Experience of vacuum technology, precision mechanics, opto-mechanics and control systems.

Experience of pressure systems and gas technology.
-
Chartered status
-
Understanding of the principles of engineering aspects of lasers and optics.

Familiarity with pressurised gas systems and cryogenics.

Fluent in verbal and written communications.
What is the highest level of security clearance required in the job role?
This role would require a BPSS (DS) - Baseline Personnel Security Standard (with a Disclosure Scotland).
