Description

My client who are a multinational company based near Epsom are looking for an experienced Statutory Accountant/Controller.

Responsibilities

Work effectively and collaboratively with GFS Statutory CoE to ensure the statutory accounts for ~20 UK companies are accurately produced in line with UK GAAP and filed on time with unqualified audit opinions
Produce market owned annual financial statements
Plan and execute annual audits, including liaison with and direction to other UK and Global Finance colleagues such as WRD Finance, Enabling Finance, IP Funding Team, Car Leasing and Tax Transfer Pricing, to minimise the number of sundry unadjusted audit differences and audit findings in KPMG's management letter
Provide expert technical accounting advice to Finance, Tax and Business leaders, including writing technical papers for auditors, tax authorities and other external bodies to support the accounting of complex business transactions, interacting with Controllers as required.
Ensure UK impairment reviews are completed based on latest business forecasts
Perform analytical reviews of the UK GAAP financial statement and explain material variances
Maintain an understanding of the US GAAP Controllership reports and the significant GAAP differences
Ensure Corporate Finance owned reconciliations are maintained in line with the global policy and RMS is completed in line with global requirements
Attend quarterly balance sheet reviews and provide the appropriate challenge for balance sheet accounts owned and reconciled outside UK Corporate Finance
Prepare the quarterly board packs for the main UK operating companies, including a detailed understanding of product gross margins, Other Income & Deductions and significant balance sheet movements. Present to the Audit and Finance Board Committee and other relevant parties such as Pension Trustees, Corporate Tax and Auditors
Maintain interactions throughout the year with other teams that have a material impact on the UK accounts such as IP Funding, Royalties, Pensions and Tax Transfer Pricing to ensure the accuracy of the UK GAAP books.
Participate and represent UK Corporate Finance in ad hoc projects

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Qualified accountant or equivalent with at least 5 years post qualification financial accounting or commercial experience, preferably gained in the Pharmaceutical industry or with a large audit practice
Experience of preparing UK statutory accounts and interacting with Auditors
Good understanding of accounting principles, UK GAAP, including FRS102, and US GAAP
Strong analytical and technical skills
Able to interpret complex business transactions and develop appropriate accounting treatment
Good communication and presentation skills - verbal and written.
SAP experience is preferable
Sound IT skills - particularly in Excel
Able to work prioritise own work and work effectively in a team environment
