Finance Analyst - 6 months - Investment Bank

Reporting to the Accounting Operations Manager, this role is primarily focussed on General Ledger control for the group. Day to day responsibilities involve acting as subject matter expert for certain areas of the GL (including provisions, fixed assets and treasury), including some posting, reconciliation and ensuring treatment is in accordance with Enterprise policy and Accounting Standards. Taking a risk and control based approach, responsibilities also include variance analysis on the general ledger, including areas that are posted and reconciled by non-Finance departments.

This role is an opportunity to get to know the business while adding value to existing processes across the accounting records, and acting as a key business partner and advisor to areas of the Finance Division and the Business where new or updated GL processes are required.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • As required, complete a full range of accounting processes, including intercompany accounting, treasury accounting, accruals processing and consolidation.
  • Responsible for helping to ensure that the team achieves its month end deadlines by completing accurate and timely postings, reconciliations and analytical review of general ledger entries.
  • Is a subject matter expert in relation to assigned areas of the general ledger, initially including month end accruals, loan loss reserve, treasury and fixed assets. Take ownership of these areas throughout the month and at close.
  • Maintain understanding and review processes of areas of the GL that are posted to and reconciled by non-Finance departments.
  • Involvement in projects that impact the Accounting team
  • Key business partner in respect of new or updated GL processes required, accounting issues, processes and best practice. Identifies and implements changes required.
  • Constantly seek to introduce process efficiencies, discussing with management and implementing change.
  • Deal with Internal Audit and External audit team where required, promoting the control environment and building strong relationships.
  • Key partner to the Statutory and Technical Accounting team, assisting with preparation of statutory accounts where required and ensuring that new processes meet technical requirements.

Essential Experience and Technical Qualifications - eg

Exposure to dealing with customers/candidates, working knowledge of SAS, SQL, or specific technical expertise. This section will be displayed on job adverts

Required:

  • Strong technical accountancy knowledge.
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent computer literacy including advanced Excel skills.
  • Control focus including evidence of achieving tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • A proven ability to prioritise and organise workload on changing basis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Oracle and SAP.
  • Experience of design and implementation of new processes, systems or controls.
  • Experience of preparing analytical financial reporting.
  • Previous experience in a Financial Services environment.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP.

Required Qualifications:

  • Qualified or part qualified ACA or ACCA.
