Quality Service Officer

Tamworth

11 month contract

£ per day

The purpose of this Quality Service Officer role is to support the development of a Forensic Services Quality Management System across this large government agency's Commands ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 standards.

Support the implementation and maintenance of Forensic quality standards (ISO 17025) in specific Commands to ensure compliance with the EU mandate and the Forensic Science Regulator.

Develop and maintain ISO 17020 policy and procedures ensuring they are fit for purpose.

Carry out audits against working practices within the Forensics Services Quality Management System.

Provide support and guidance to technical managers in:

  • the validation and verification of technical processes;
  • problem solving when technical issues arise;
  • the introduction of new processes and encouraging continuous improvement.

Record and monitor corrective actions or non-compliance identified; supporting any investigations and actions where necessary.

Scheduling and maintaining records of outcomes for:

  • Audits against working practices;
  • Environmental monitoring of examination facilities;
  • Calibrations and tests of equipment;
  • Proficiency tests and inter-lab comparisons;
  • Batch testing of consumables.

Support the version control and central archiving of policies and procedures, safe systems of work and risk assessments.

Issue new and updated procedures across the Forensic landscape.

Report quality issues to management meetings where improvements will be discussed and agreed.

Maintaining a good level of knowledge and understanding of quality standards, training and competency.

Qualifications required:

Essential

  • Lead Auditors Course set by the International Register of Certified Auditors.

Desirable

  • UKAS ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Forensic Laboratory course or equivalent qualification.
  • Certificate/Diploma in Quality Management.

Skills and experience:

Essential

  • Good understanding and working knowledge of ISO 17025 in a forensic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal/customer service skills.
  • Excellent ICT skills and the ability to extract, analyse and present performance data.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Previous experience of working with ISO quality standards particularly ISO 17025.
  • Previous experience of Quality Management Systems from UKAS accredited bodies.
  • Demonstrate competence to conduct audits against ISO 17025 standard.

Desirable

  • Good understanding of ILAC G19 and the Forensic Science Regulators Code of Practice and
    Conduct.
  • Drafting/report writing skills (eg policy, service level agreements, reviews, evaluations and
    reports).
  • Training and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative, work under pressure and to deadlines.
