Project Engineering Lead - Engineering experience
A Project Engineering Lead is required to work on a four month contract (WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION) for our Defence client based in Basildon.
Overview of the Project Engineering Lead contract role
An experienced engineer whose primary role is to lead a multi-disciplined engineering team, generally on high complexity, high value programmes.
To ensure that the Integrated Project Team (IPT) delivers an integrated solution that is compliant with the customer requirements, contractual and legislative requirements and it is effectively planned and managed from a performance, schedule and cost perspective.
Key experience required for the Project Engineering Lead
- Well rounded engineering experience in all phases of the life cycle across several projects or programmes
- Proven track record of delivery in complex product development
- Design of engineering system architecture
- Design for manufacture principles and implementation
- People management of between 10 - 30 multi-discipline engineers
- Experience of customer/supplier relations
- Project management, (in context of an Engineering Manager)
- Significant experience in all aspects of engineering task planning
- Desirable: previous experience in security systems for Oil & Gas customers and familiar with Safety and Offshore Platforms Installation Issues.
- Desirable: experience of "system of systems" integration (eg Command & Control Applications based on Radar and Electro Optic Platform technology and/or other relevant security sensors)
Qualifications (typical):
- Typically Degree qualified in an appropriate engineering discipline
- Typically meets the requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council, and be an active member of a relevant Professional Body
Key responsibility areas
- Leadership of large multi-discipline engineering teams
- Delivery of the overall engineering solution on time, to cost and performance
- Create, own and implement the overall engineering plan, establishing key milestones and interdependencies
- Challenge and validate estimates and scheduled, including forward load requirements
- Ensure critical factors such as Unit Production Cost, mass, power consumption, etc are defined, tracked and managed
- Support make and buy decisions
- Ensure that corrective and preventative action is taken to address non-conformance
- Manage compliance of the design solution against the overall requirement, including customer requirements, acceptance, legislative and contractual requirements and product safety requirements, co-operate with the project Chief Engineer to resolve technical or programme conflicts
- Evaluate, mitigate and manage engineering risks
- Participate in contract status reviews, design reviews and supplier progress reviews and produce targets for action closure
- Coach and mentor other engineers as appropriate
