Press Officer, Media Relations, PR, Press, Marketing & Media, Government, Public Sector

We are currently seeking an experienced Press Officer to join a large well-established public sector client of ours on an initial 6 month contract, where you will be responsible for delivering a high quality media relations service to a broad range of media.

As a press officer you will be working with key decision makers, in a fast-paced demanding environment.
You will need a track record of generating impactful, creative coverage in both print and broadcast media. Highly politically astute, you will have experience working with people across a business to support them to engage via the media, and proven experience in building relationships with journalists. You will have experience of working in a pressured environment, handing crisis situations and working with other organisations.

Responsibilities:
  • Respond to media enquiries and brief media representatives ensuring effective liaison with colleagues as appropriate, and plan and manage media events and activities.
  • Develop and deliver high quality professional communications to the media and stakeholders. This could include writing, editing/proof reading, coordinating publication, producing rich media content and press briefings, Q&As and releases.
  • Maintain effective forward planning and develop relationships with journalists and colleagues in supply chain organisations, sharing good practice and coordinating activity.
  • Provide media handling advice to managers, staff and others, including developing and implementing handling plans for projects and sensitive issues.
  • To support an out of hours duty rota.
  • Support core business through taking forward opportunities and implementing activities and measures to raise the company's profile and reputation by applying knowledge and skills in area of expertise.
  • To assess safety performance to minimise risks, develop improvements and escalate issues in a timely manner.
