Shock & Dynamics Engineer - Naval

A Shock & Dynamics Engineer with Naval experience is required to work on a twelve month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our defence client based in Cumbria.

This is a 12 month contract with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Shock & Dynamics Engineer contract role

The role is primarily for the design substantiation of additional structures and structures supporting equipment. It involves the structural assessment and modification of the designs of structures to a specific acceptance criteria. It involves interactions with designers to gather information and working with designers to modify designs where necessary. The role also includes the checking of calculations equivalent to those being created by the engineer in the role, and may involve other calculation and checking work supporting the general work performed by the shock and dynamics department.

Key skills required for the Shock & Dynamics Engineer

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Essential - Degree level qualification in mechanical, structural, marine or aeronautical engineering (or equivalent level of experience performing calculations).
  • Beneficial - Qualifications covering the use of Mathcad, Abaqus CAE, Chartership with a relevant institution (IMECHE).
  • Experience of working with designers to modify and improve designs.
  • Experience performing calculations using hand calculations and text book references.
  • Experience performing calculations using spreadsheets or Mathcad software.
  • Experience of assessing structures or components using Finite Element Analysis software.

The role is based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria - commutable from Carnforth, Milnthorpe, Lancaster, Morecambe, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven and The Lake District.
