Description
This senior user research lead will both acquire new and gather pre-existing research to establish user needs that will influence organisational transformation and the service offering. This will be both at a conceptual and solutions level. The initial focus will be on understanding need well ahead of solution development.
ESSENTIAL:
- Strong experience in organisational service design
- Ability to think at a highly strategic level
- Be an experienced advocate for user needs both within the team, the department at large and a network of local/regional delivery arms
- Be visionary in thinking and able to challenge assumptions and test ideas
- Be comfortable working with data, from gathering and analysis through to design and presentation
- Be comfortable mentoring and up-skilling junior staff in research techniques
- Be comfortable hiring and managing additional user researchers should the portfolio have need in the future
- Be comfortable gathering and analysing broad user need to direct business design and strategic decisions
- Be able to form close partnerships with business design and broader strategic teams, working at a programme and portfolio level
- Work autonomously
- Be a problem solver - able to think laterally and connect the unexpected
- Be able to make clear presentations and defend your opinion with confidence
- Have a degree in HCI, Usability/Cognitive Psychology/Anthropology/Human Sciences or related field, and/or relevant industry experience
- At an underpinning level they must be able to plan, design and conduct in-house user research
- At an underpinning level they must be able to gather user insight through early stage concept and prototype testing
- At an underpinning level they must be able to ensure research findings are relayed quickly to teams, the department and wider government so that user needs are well understood
- At an underpinning level they must be able to design, script and analyse ad-hoc qualitative/quantitative surveys using in-house software licences
- At an underpinning level they must be able to apply their knowledge in human factors, ethnography, and the user centred design process in an iterative development environment
Desirable
- Be comfortable operating at board level with senior stakeholders
- Prior experience of organisational and business design
