Currently seeking a Service Asset Configuration Management Tools SME (SACM), to fulfil a contractual opportunity for my client based at their offices in Newcastle, due to commence ASAP and run for a period of 12 months until November 2017.

Due to the nature of the role and the time scale and requirements issued by the client, candidates have been advised to hold current government clearance to SC level for this role, or be willing and eligible to obtain at the clients request.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

The Configuration Tools SME responsibilities are:

  • Overall responsibility for the Configuration Management System (CMS)

  • Ensuring the CMS support Contractual CM and AM requirements.

  • Identifying Configuration Items (CI).

  • Version/Baseline Management.

  • Ensuring adherence to Change Control standards.

  • Undertaking Configuration Status Accounting - (ie reporting of the current status of all CI's within the Environments).

  • Defining and implementing CM processes and procedures.

  • Implementing and manage Continuous Service Improvement Plan (CSIP).

  • Planning & conducting CM/CMS presentations, workshops and training courses where appropriate.

  • Recording of relationships and dependencies of CI's.

  • Creation and maintenance of a CM Knowledge Portal (SharePoint)

INTERFACES

The Configuration Tools SME interfaces with:

  • Other service discipline, service line and business support function staff

  • Process Owners;

  • Customers & Suppliers;

  • Third Party representatives

Essential Skills:

The Configuration Tools SME will have:

  • Experience of an ITIL v2/3 SACM (Service Asset and Configuration Management) large scale implementation (30,000+ assets and CI's)

  • A background working within a network CM environment and have a working knowledge of software and hardware CM, using tools such as Star Team, Serena Dimensions, assist, HP Service Manager, uCMDB, Asset Manager, etc.

  • Experience of audit and automated discovery, audit reporting and discrepancy handling

  • Experience and knowledge of Data Centre CM, including virtual and physical Servers, power usage and capacity planning

  • Experience of AM and SLM

  • Strong communication skills and be able to liaise with members of all Engineering and Support teams. They should be comfortable performing administrative tasks and pro-active in their approach to work

  • The ability to mentor and provide training to staff members and the Customer in the use of the CMS

  • A strong analytical approach to work with attention to detail, the candidate should also show a commitment to service improvement and quality

  • Proven ability to perform day-to-day management of activities against business objectives, personal development, project timescales and process

  • Proven ability to perform alone and as part of a team and to be able to monitor own workload to be effective member of the team

  • Proven ability to identify process improvements and negotiate development of new ideas, particular in automation of process and development of CM toolset

  • Proven ability to practice excellent work prioritisation and time management

  • Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with suppliers and customers.

  • A disciplined approach to following work instructions faithfully, and to deliver improvements through controlled change

  • Proven ability, under minimal direction, to function in this advanced speciality discipline whereby others can call on skills and knowledge for assembly/integration, cross discipline functions, data engineering, industry expertise, knowledge engineering, Legacy evolution, or system infrastructure

  • Proven expertise within the Configuration Management System discipline

  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate the design, development, implementation and support of business and/or technical direction of the organisation.

  • Skills relating to research, analysis, recommendation and implementation of new technologies, standard processes, tools and techniques. Creates portions of information technology plans based on understanding of the customers organisational strategic direction, technology context and business needs.

  • Ability to coach and provide technical leadership to others on the application of new technologies and system development methodologies.

  • Ability to Identify, develop, update and enforce standards and procedures.

  • Ability to monitor and ensure resolution to system failures and performance issues. Interfaces with support groups and production problems, technical concerns and financial issues.

  • Mind-set to research, evaluate and stay current on emerging tools, techniques and technologies

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience of technologies use within the service VMWare, Active Directory, HP Radia, Windows etc.

  • Good personal interfacing abilities.

  • Real Experience of Borland's StarTeam or other Configuration Management toolsets

  • WMI of Jyphon Scripting experience, mange the database operation

  • Project Management (Prince II) and or team leading experience.

  • Previous experience delivering presentations and training to internal and external customers

  • Previous experience implementing ITIL v2/3 configuration management process.

  • Previous knowledge of the infrastructure build and test process

  • Organised and methodical approach to routine and administrative matters

  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both written and verbal at all levels

  • Ability to handle both technical and non-technical data
