Description

Role Purpose:

  • To lead all fibre design activities for Ireland fibre service deliveries and provide technical expertise on all aspects of fibre design and planning.
  • To assist the business development team in pre-sales activities focused on passive fibre network design and deployment projects. This includes engagement with customers.
  • To build and lead internal and third parties teams to produce cost efficient but feasible FTTx, B2B and HFC designs (pre-sales, high level design, survey and low level design packs) based on individual customer needs and guidelines.
  • Drive operational readiness activities for new customer opportunities including required tools.
  • Assist field and project teams during planning, design or deployment activities.
  • Manage and track the design team project deliverables
  • Identify sales opportunities beyond project scope.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To manage internal and third party teams to produce high quality designs of HFC, FTTX and B2B networks for underground and aerial networks in Ireland
  • Manage project demand and resources to ensure deliverables are tracked and completed on or before agreed timescales. Report on project deliverables to project managers
  • Responsible for new build, customer connections, network upgrades, diversionary works and customised solutions.
  • To setup and manage an effective quality control and verification process for fibre design and survey outputs by internal and third party teams. Including BoQ and BoM required for construction and installation
  • Deliver network requirements to agreed quality of service and financial targets.
  • Support the team responsible for obtaining permits, wayleaves and approvals
  • To keep up-to-date on fibre services deployment and design innovations in Ireland to drive improvements in cost, quality and timescales.
  • Engage with the client's global teams to learn and share best practices

Skills and behaviours required

  • 5+ years of experience of fixed and cable operator fibre design, including detailed knowledge of their planning guidelines and ways of working on GPON, FTTX and HFC networks.
  • Good network within the fibre services industry - both suppliers and customers
  • Excellent understanding of fibre network architectures and network topologies
  • 5+ years of design experience and usage of design, survey & inventory applications, eg ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, Smallworld, Gcomms, Network Engineer etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of FTTx topology including mixed networks with GPON, G.Fast, VDSL, HFC, DOCSIS.
  • Strong knowledge of available passive components applicable to FTTx networks and FTTx deployment technologies.
  • Extensive experience with Permit drafting/drawings, High Level Design (Nominal Design), Low Level Design (Detailed Design) and As-Built Engineering
  • Extensive experience conducting quality control of fibre engineering designs
  • Experience of managing OSP design engineers
  • Solid understanding of OSP network design key drivers affecting cost in OSP network roll outs
  • Analytical and demonstrates ability to solve product or operations related problems.
  • Profound understanding of customer challenges within fibre network domain
  • Ability to gain confidence with the customer
  • Demonstrates active listening skills with customers and internal teams
  • Shows personal accountability and result oriented behaviour at all times
  • Actively builds and maintains a wide contact network with customers, suppliers, competitors and colleagues
  • Good knowledge of planning from exchange/head end to customer premises
  • Site survey experience
  • Good knowledge of CDM Regulations and up-to-date working knowledge of related legislation
  • Good knowledge of private way leave and customer consents
  • Clear thinker with determination and energy, good planning abilities, well-organised and seeking perfection.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a wide spectrum of personalities.
  • Good understanding of construction techniques & materials - specifically, which methods can/should be used in which circumstances
  • Good understanding of construction costs, to enable what-if scenario evaluation.
