Description

We are supporting a Global Renewable Energy client in their search for an offshore Substation Fabrication Inspector to support their Fabrication Manager in monitoring the progress of contractor and sub-contractor steel works and surface treatment with accordance to programme and milestones.

The Substation Fabrication Inspector will liaise with the Fabrication Manager on all Quality matters and agree on inspection scope. Our client is looking for the individual to start this freelance contract role from the beginning of January 2017 this will be for approx. 18 months with the possibility of extending further thereafter.
Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • To comply with client guidelines, standards and requirements together with local requirements.
  • To liaise with the Fabrication Manager on all Quality matters and agree on inspection scope.
  • To ensure (inspect) that the structural fabrication and mechanical systems (piping, crane, passive fire walls) are also made in accordance with client 'Employers' requirements to include, specifications and standards in regards to:
    • Fabrication of jacket and topside.
    • Sea fastening.
    • Offshore welding of topside module to the jacket structure.
    • Support the Fabrication Manager in monitoring the Progress of contractor and their sub-contractor steel works and surface treatment according to programme and milestones.
    • Identify issues for certifying body inspections.
    • Identify interfaces, risk and report those to the Fabrication Manager.
    • Contribute actively to evaluation of the project and capture lessons learnt throughout the project.
Tasks:
  • Review client requirement and design drawings.
  • Review contractor procedure ITP, WPS, PQP, NDE and coating in order to follow up in contractor's workshop.
  • Review of client spot check for workshop drawings and contractors red-line mark up.
  • Take part in kick-off meetings, if relevant.
  • Support Fabrication Manager in participation in witness - hold points inspection and FAT as agreed in contractors ITP.
  • To provide practical input to and allow follow up on implementation of fabrication relevant communications, technical queries (TQ) communication notes (CN).
  • To raise and give input to non-conformities (NC).
  • Spot check of contractor material inspection.
  • Verification of Welder certification, preparation and use of WPS to perform spot checks.
  • Spot check of contractor NDT of welding performance, NDT equipment and reporting.
  • Verification of NDT of Welding performance, NDT equipment and NDT reporting
  • Verification of NDT Operator certification by spot check
  • Final inspections of steel work before surface treatment/preparation incl. contractor documentation.
  • Dimensional checks of structure incl. check of position, dim of profiles and tolerances.
  • Spot check of coating, coating facilities, inspection during coating process, paint reports and cathodic protection.
  • To support client HSE with general supervision of HSE on site, review contractor 'as-built' documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8-10 years of practical as well as theoretical experience within offshore/or steel construction; or familiar with steel fabrication and inspection, NDT and coating such as: IWI/IWS International Welding Inspector/Specialist, IWT International Welding Technician/Welding Engineer and Frosio light;
  • Must be technically strong, adaptable, can work well in a team, strong communication abilities, and good oral and written skills is a must

The Consultant must bring his/her own PC with MS Office 2007 software and mobile telephone
