Description

Sopra Steria Recruitment is working in partnership with a major public sector client in the UK. We are currently recruiting a Press Officer for an initially 6 month contract based in London. Please find the job specs below:

Job Specification
We want someone with an excellent grasp of the news, proven experience of working in a busy integrated communications environment and the ability to foster and maintain good relations with a wide range of people.
You will be expected to deliver accurate, high quality messages and opportunities across a wide range of channels. We need someone who can maintain and build strong working relationships with key stakeholders, as well as across the wider communications teams.
Working closely with the wider communications team and policy officials you will devise and deliver targeted media plans across all media channels and provide an authoritative, effective and professional service to the media, you will be:
- Handling breaking news stories and planned announcements you will produce
- Creative, proactive PR features, stories and social media opportunities for DCMS' policies.
- Working with DCMS' arm's length bodies to plan and maximise announcements and exploit opportunities for joint working.
- Providing media advice and support to the ministers, senior officials and stakeholders.
- Working closely with Number 10 and other Government departments on the cross Government campaigns to ensure all messages are consistent and stories are maximised.
- Contributing to policy development with professional advice on media and communications handling.
- Monitoring and evaluating media work to ensure objectives are being met and messages landing
- You will take part in the out of hours duty rota for which overtime is paid.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements:

You will have significant experience of:
- A background in PR, journalism, news handling or marketing
- Experience of devising and delivering creative media plans, using the right channels for the target audience.
- You will have a good news sense and first-rate media handling skills. You will be equally effective at spotting proactive media opportunities and implementing these across the broader media landscape. You will need excellent organisational skills and be able to shape and deliver communication strategies.
- You will need to demonstrate determination, resilience and an ability to work under pressure, at pace. You will need to have the confidence to take action when faced with resistance.
- You will have experience of influencing and advising senior policy colleagues, ministers and special advisers on all aspects of media, confidently challenging them when needed.
- You will be an enthusiastic team player with a can-do attitude offering creative solutions to problems and driving the media agenda.
- You will have experience and evidence of using social media as part of your media handling plans.
