Communications Manager - 4 months - Hackney

Local authority is looking for a Communications Manager who will develop, implement and review a comprehensive communications and external relations service that informs residents, partners and stakeholders about services it commissions.

You will play a leading role alongside Council and stakeholder communications officers to ensure a joined up and effective approach to communications around all health and wellbeing services and aspirations.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND WORKING KNOWLEDGE

- Significant experience of providing both strategic and operational communications in a corporate environment.
- Experience of leading communications projects or teams in a corporate environment.
- Experience of providing strategic and operational communications advice to senior officers.
- Experience of horizon scanning and strategic communications planning.
- Experience of researching, planning, delivering and evaluating integrated communications campaigns across a range of channels.
- Experience of reputation management and handling high profile media issues.
- Experience of producing a wide range of communications materials for different audiences.
- Experience of complex stakeholder and community engagement.
- Experience of overseeing and checking the work of others and ensuring high quality outputs.
- Experience of communicating with hard to reach and diverse audiences.
- Experience of working in a highly pressurised environment and delivering results to tight deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

- Educated to A level standard or above.
- Demeanour and attitude to inspire trust and confidence in senior managers and stakeholders.
- Ability to motivate and empower colleagues and stakeholders to support strong relationships, trust, good morale and teamwork.
- Ability to work flexibly in a team environment with tight deadlines and constantly changing workloads.
- Highly creative and focused on solutions.
- Ability to persuade and influence different people in different circumstances.
- Ability to make sound and timely decisions, take initiatives and initiate action. - Weighs up a situation and takes or recommends a course of action after considering the benefits as well as the problems.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

- Excellent oral, written and presentational skills.
- Strong editing and proof-reading skills.
- Ability to translate complex information into a clear and approachable format for a wide range of audiences.
- Understanding of the health service environment.
- Understanding of local and national government.
- Understanding of media relations.
- Understanding of social media and the ever changing digital environment, in the context of corporate communications and reputation management
- Understanding of community engagement and the needs of a diverse community.

CIRCUMSTANCES

- Flexibility to attend evening and weekend meetings and events relevant to the role's duties.
- Able to undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and within the capabilities of the post holder that may arise
