Pressure Vessel/Heat Exchanger Design Engineer - Nuclear Projects

My well-known and prestigious client in the Nuclear industry is looking for a Pressure Vessel/Heat Exchanger Design Engineer to join their team who are currently in the design phase of a major Nuclear project. My highly notable client is working alongside a recognised Nuclear/Renewable Energy client in this instance, but is also working on multiple Nuclear projects up and down the UK.

The Pressure Vessel Design Engineer is required to complete the initial sizing of heat exchangers and vessels, perform FEA analysis using ANSYS and the preparation of technical documents for the project. The Pressure Vessel/Heat Exchanger Design Engineer will be using all aspects of the application of FEA Analysis using ANSYS for stress code compliance, as well as preparing and checking the technical design documents including design specifications, design reports and analysis reports. They will preferably have a working knowledge of ASME III or ASME VIII and/or RCC-M, as well as user knowledge of hand calculations and design-by-analysis using finite element software as well as seismic and fatigue design or analysis of pressure components. It is expected that the Pressure Vessel/Heat Exchanger Design Engineer will already have an experience within authoring of mechanical design specifications, appreciation of Pressure Equipment Regulations as well as an appreciating of heat exchanger/pressure vessel manufacturing techniques.

Key skills:

  • User experience of performing FEA analysis using ANSYS for stress code compliance
  • Working knowledge of the pressure design codes ASME III, ASME VII, BSEN 13445 and or RCC-M
  • Experience within the sizing and detailed design and analysis of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks etc. using MathCAD and Finglow
  • Hand calculations and design-by-rule formulae
  • Seismic and fatigue design or analysis of pressure components
  • Experience in authoring design specifications, sizing reports and design reports
  • To have an appreciation of QA requirements and Pressure Vessel Regulations
  • To have an awareness of techniques such as radiography, NDT or NDE is advisable
  • Experience in the full life cycle process of the design of pressure vessels/heat exchangers
  • Must be personable, a team player, competent and pro-active
