Sopra Steria Recruitment is working in partnership with a major public sector in the UK.
We are currently recruiting Press Officer for 3 months initially with possible extension.
The role:
As part of the Newsdesk team, handling client's breaking news stories.
Monitoring all relevant media coverage including social media and alerting colleagues, Ministers, officials and special advisers.
Providing timely proactive media handling advice to ministers, special advisers and senior officials.
Organising media interviews, visits, announcements and publicity to support the Government's devolution and local government agendas.
Support the news planning function and liaise with Number 10 to secure grid slots for key announcements.
Everyday activity includes:
Responding to breaking news and high profile journalists.
Working with others in the media team, with policy colleagues and Number 10 to provide a swift, accurate service to ministers and journalists.
Researching, drafting and issuing clear, concise responses across a range of channels.
Key skills required:
Excellent communications skills - both written and verbal - including writing news releases, press statements or other briefing material.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work to tight press deadlines and manage competing priorities.
Ability to work on own initiative and quickly grasp complex issues.
A sound understanding of social media and how to use it in a media office environment.
